Description Rusty and dusty is the best way to describe the progress of my mini-planet series after kinda dumping it for two years. Just needed a break and I had too many other ideas in mind. But during a dull moment I thought I'd finally finish the desert planet I started ages ago, and maybe raise motivation to keep going for the rest later on. I did set myself a goal of 8 total after all, more if I could think of it

So here's a desert themed one. Nothing much more to say about it actually, my goal is to keep their style consistent so my methods used was the same. Get as much "right" in 3D as I can for a "game" look, and postwork minimal (but it's there I admit)

Closeups of the surface in Off Track in Derailed Desert

Others in the series:
Picnic Park galaxy
Beach Ball galaxy
Frozen Flurry galaxy
Channel City galaxy
Banshee Bridge galaxy

Phew, this one took ages carefully modelling everything around a spherical object

I think the end result was worth it though. It looks amazing.

Cowboys and Aliens - I like the sound of that. Seems like a good concept for a movie

There IS a movie like that. And I was referring to the Aliens and cowboys being one and the same since this planet isn't earth.

It's a really cool planet with arid wastelands , rolling hills , frozen peaks, rocky caverns and erupting volcanos it's a dangerous planet in the game but each area on the planet makes the game more interesting and fun

and I do like it I love your attention to detail on the cliffs and tracksΒ

It would be pretty fun. Though on a bike, that gravel would hurt like hell if you fell off and slid along it right into a cactus patch

I love Railways, my latest desire would be to visit and photo the Cane railways in Queensland.Β  Of course when I told some of my friends this they said, "Queensland, Really?" IΒ  said "It is what it is." oh well, long live guys who are different--we know better and experience a more intimate part of life--sex doesn't get in the way. Anyway this is so much like the American southwest that you have depicted here, the Prickly PearΒ and the Saguaro. I also see Ball Cactus and what to me look like Jade plants.Β This picture is fun, each time I look I find something new. Yeah, I could live there and my Partner would have like it as well if we were to be happy--I am demanding?Β Again you hit it right on for me and again I thank-you.

I mainly want to live in Queens;and since it has a more tropical climate which means I can create the tropical garden of my dreams without having some plant choices limited by Winter cold (it doesn't get that cold here in Winter, many tropical garden plants still survive it but some do look unhealthy for a month or two afterwards until they bounce back in spring) But then again, I have a fondness for plants from all climate zones, if I move to the tropics I'll have to give up my deciduous trees from cooler climates which make great bonsai's But Queensland has always had a pull on me, even f it's just because of some good memories of family vacations there (which is as far as I've gone - nobody I know can afford to travel much )

This was defineily inspired by the classic mid-western scene. I knew I wanted to make a desert and it was either going to be an eastern desert (like Egyptian style with pyramids and the like) or a western one. I felt like I could do more with the western theme though so I went with that

8legs In reply to Chromattix [2013-08-22 03:26:45 +0000 UTC]

Queensland sounds nice wish I could move there but it takes money, something which I don't have much of. If I was on my own and had the money it would be worth considering, but its like one of your planetary landscapes, very beautiful but very farΒ away. I so wish we could meet, I feel very blessed that I have found you. It would be nice if we could just escape together into one of your pictures, I know, I dream, but dreams are what keeps the Soul alive.

Well you can always try Florida or California - Queensland here is pretty much just our equivalent of that I often say that I would only live in the US if I could live in one of those states., since they climate is most similar to what makes up most of Australia. The northern states would get too cold in Winter for me, and as for Texas - well...too many Christians

I lived in San Diego several times but the family is here in the Midwest and it was always a crisis that brought me back but now I am too broke to go back so I am here for now, I don't know what the future will bring but I know I don't want to stay here. Texas is just plain wacked!! I have been there, never want to beΒ again. Florida, lived there once but withΒ those damn snakes on the loose, No Thanks, ever!!!

Beautiful!

This series of yours reminds me of a German animation series "Der Kleine Prinz" where De Saint-ExupΓ©ry's Little Prince travels similarly small Worlds, each with their own characteristics. A musical planet, one full of railroads, a cubistic planet, and so on.

I can't stop imagining how the hell this masterpiece was made. I mean, would you keep on rotating the artboard in order to find the real perspective?
Anyway, it is amazing to see such thing. Actually, beyond awesomeness!

What do you use in order to make these sky islands?
Ridiculously incredible work! Congratulations!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromattix In reply to zlukey [2012-09-09 03:14:35 +0000 UTC]

I created this using 3D software (Cinema 4D and Vue) which makes it easy to rotate stuff around since it's like working with an actual model (3D art is the digital equivalent of sculpture like how Digital painting is the digital equivalent of regular painting) It still spent most of its time the right way up. had to move the "camera" view around and have it parrallel to the ground of whatever part I was at to make sure everything was sitting right. That in itself added hours to the work
