Epic Edit: - Re-made from scratch and re-submitted in Februrary 2008....Why?...In order to make the first and original concept that started the whole "floating island" series live up to it's newer partners, I figured I should have edited the first one so it will stop being that one that misses out while the others get all the faves. The original is here [link] for those who want to compare the difference.
About the artwork itself, well as you can see, its the same thing as the original, I personally loved this version, being bright and tropical and all, and thought the idea deserved to be presented better. Unlike the original, I spent more than an afternoon on it lol. I used the same methods for everything as I did with the others, trying to get it to match up as best as I can and I think it came out good enough, of course, I didn't want to outdo the "newer" ones either.

I now think differently of floating islands... I used to think of them like the one in Bomb omb battlefield in Super Mario 64. But you have made them seem much more lively.

Can definitely see the Angel Island influence here, but its rather impressive on its own right.

Lol, yeah, it did get at least some of it's inspiration from that. Mostly the shape and "spiked" bottom (I drew one way beforehand before seeing Angel Island, since I didn't get to play that game until Sonic Mega Collocation came out on the GameCube, and the old one had a different-looking bottom half, I later realized this one looked better thanks to seeing it on Angel Island

Part yes and part no. I remember designing one years back (before I was even on dA) and at that time I haven't played any of the MegaDrive Sonic games until Sonic Mega Collection came out for the GameCube in the mid 2000's. And then I saw they had one too (but that one looked a lot better than mine) so years later when I re-did it to this I decided to put some inspiration from that one to improve mine

Haha, to believe I made the old version of this before playing those classics (never had the SEGA Mega drive, so I didn't play all those good Sonic games until I was around 14 or 15 and Sonic Mega colletcion came out for the GameCube

Btw is a lot of your work inspired by Laputa: Castle in the sky? [link] This film came out around the 80's, a lot older than sonic's angel island)
