Description Old motif, conveniently symoblising the trinity, fertility or whatever else might be associated with this time of year (it also appears frequently in synagogues, but what it is supposed to denot in this context is rather obscure).
The text is a German riddle: three hares and three ears, and yet every one has two of them.

Ink and watercolour...

Happy easter or passover or whatever it is you celebrate this time of year.

I used to live in Germany as a child and this symbol was used all over the town. I had forgotten all about it until now. Thank you so much for sharing your work with us

Right now, I am reading 'I Shall Wear Midnight' by Terry Pratchett, and it has to do with the hare running through the fire...you might find the riddle interesting...

I love this whimsical, fairy tale style. It's just very reminiscent of something you'd find in an old children's book. Beautiful.

The three hares is one of my favorite designs. Your painting was very well done.

Here's an article you might find interesting. The hares design has traveled far and wide. [link]

Thank you for the link. I did read about its Far Eastern origin before, but it is interesting to see so many examples of the design. Fascinating how a single motif can carry different meanings in so very differing cultural regions as China and the south of England.

reminds me a bit of water ship down... very pretty and I love the green. It has just the right balance of yellow to pick up on the cream in the hares. Great Job

I adore this, if you brought it out (privately) as a print I would probably buy it. This would look so nice mounted in a frame. The ears are very clever and the colour... well, if you haven't already guessed, I like this alot.

The hare is a symbol/friend to the goddess Eostre, and keeps her company as she brings spring to the earth.

I love the picture, very well done.
