Yes. It's somewhat inspired by Harald Wiberg's illustrations to Astrid Lindgren's Tomte Tummetott stories.

Looks like some areas of my native Wales, especially the huge stones and the moss-covered roof. It also kind of looks like some parts of the Faeroe Islands, where I am temporarily living...only with more trees...
I love the little gnomish character in the corner.

This looks like a Ukrainian landscape

Well, it's supposed to be Sweden, but there are cultural connections between Sweden and the Ukraine (if the theory that the Rus were of Swedish descend is correct)

Haha, aah ok my bad, but it's all in Europe so they must share some kinds of common points, as the trees. Anyway, it's a beautiful work of art

Really nice linework and textures there. I love the composition, with all the trees breaking up the scenery.

Cute!
Have I mentioned that your art reminds me of John Bauer? I think I have done before, but it really does. He draws a lot of tomte, too. [link]

Tomte does it mean like Santa Claus or brownie in German by any change? I'm just curious since it means that in Swedish haha XD
Awesome piece of art! Love the background a lot!

Actually, I am refering to the Swedish tomte. This picture was inspired by the Tomte Tummetot books by Astrid Lindgren and Harald Wiberg

I actually thought about Astrid Lindgren when I saw this piece it do resemble Swedish illustration a little, but I was afraid to ask though.
I haven't actually heard of those books. I know who the authors are, but I haven't read them.

do you do your colours first then ink over the top?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cidaq In reply to ChibiButterfly [2011-12-28 16:37:47 +0000 UTC]

I do the ink lineart first.

it's lovely, is it waterproof pen?
i don't know how you manage to keep the colours so clean

cidaq In reply to ChibiButterfly [2011-12-30 13:04:24 +0000 UTC]

I use a dip pen and Indian ink for the lineart and watercolours from Schmincke, a very good German brand.

i have to say that your hand must be very steady to keep the colours so defined!
