Description I wanted to do something watery and flowy and suggestive,... but I think it came out TOO loose, like it's all over the place. I'll probably re-visit it after I can figure out what it is I want.

Anywho, this is a painting of the tale of Daniel, who, for refusing to bow in worship to the king, was thrown into the lion's den. Because Daniel was a faithful servant to the Lord, he was spared a gruesome fate. But even so, I'd imagaine it'd be scary as Hell being trapped in a hole with a pack of hungry lions, so I went for a horror-istic spin.

Note: "The Lion's Den" was a common punishment. Traps were set for wild lions who were then kept in deep pits and prisoners were thrown to them. Yeah. Cheerful stuff in the Bible.

Watercolor and black ink.

It must have been so horrible to be those lions. ;n;

The all have such haunting countenances. The planes of colors could be a litte more varied, and there should be some darker values further left of this picture. All in all, I love the compositional set up of this, and how it just sort of creeps me out. I like the sense of fearlessness in this as well. Good work.

Thanks. :3 I've been meaning to revisit this one for a while now. I like the concept but there's stuff I wish I'd done differently.

PS. I like the loosness you used in making this. It adds to the energy and drama.

I love the feeling you've created with this piece. The red eyes are a great touch. It makes them look like more than just lion, something otherworldly.

I really like this! I don't think it's too loose, because the contour lines control the forms enough that it doesn't get muddy or anything.

This is so, well, nice... even though I'm not sure thats the way to put it. Have you done storybook illustration before?

I'd like to get into storybook illustration, but as of yet I just do this sort of thing on my own.
