As usual, you were sitting in the canteen with your two best friends, Bokuto and Akaashi. Bokuto, despite being a third year, still hung around you and Akaashi, both second years. There was no lack of teasing that resulted from this oddity.

Today was not an exception.

"Lame," Akaashi slyly remarked, but the insult flew right above Bokuto's raised head.

"Whatever! At least (Name) thinks I'm cool!" he defiantly cheered, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.

You were eating a rather large sandwich, a good one at that, and was in no rush to respond. Taking your long, sweet time, you led Bokuto to his knees, practically begging you to praise him.

You smiled down at him at last. "Lame," you agreed, chuckling.

Bokuto screeched, dramatically feigning hurt by clutching his chest and rolling backwards. "(Name)!" Bokuto scoffed. "I thought we were friends!"

Breaking your tough act, you acknowledged your permanent friendship with this dork. "Of course, Bokuto; best buddies!" With a wide grin, you nudged your friend with your elbow, leaning into his left shoulder.

Akaashi raised an eyebrow.

You couldn't see what was going on, but over your head, Bokuto pleaded to Akaashi with his wide, molten-gold eyes. 'Help me out, man!' they screamed. His heart hammered, and he wondered how you didn't hear its pounds.

"Oh, (Name)," Akaashi lazily called after taking a long, excruciating slurp of his soup. "What kind of owl does Bokuto remind you of?"

You stopped teasing Bokuto for a second, taking your hands off his burning cheeks. "What kind of owl?" you repeated, tilting your head innocently.

You craned your head, admiring Bokuto from all angles. You were observant like a hawk. On the other hand, Bokuto found himself sweating under your heavy gaze. Your half-lidded eyes seemed to wander all over his features, drinking in his eyes, his hooked nose, masterfully sculpted jaw...

At last, the torture seemed to be over.

"I got it!" you announced while snapping your fingers.

"What, what?" Bokuto cried.

"You look like a horny owl!"

Akaashi choked on his fish soup. "A... A what?"

Bokuto sat straight up, flushing. You really saw right through him. But who knew that you thought of him in that way?

"Yeah!" you enthusiastically said, flapping your arms. "A horny owl! His hair looks like one, doesn't it? The way it spikes up..." You moved your own hands over your head to mimic the way Bokuto's hair spiked up at the ends.

Bokuto still stared at you, jaw dropped to oblivion, eyes as wide as saucer plates. Like a fish, he looked at you, unblinking. If he was one, his scales were as red as the spots on a koi fish.

"... What?" you asked, confused.

Akaashi snicked a bit. "I think you mean horned owl, (Name)," he said at last.

"Oh-- Oh my gosh." Your embarrassment nearly mirrored Bokuto's as you covered your face, holding in an internal scream. "Bokuto-san, I'm s-sorry about that...!"

Bokuto turned away, hiding his flushed face with his hand, and shouted, "N-no problem!" with the same amount of fervor.

Akaashi shrugged. "I'm sure he'd be a horny owl anyway."

"Akaashi!"
