Cold and unfeeling on the surface, Yao has always had an alarming talent for keeping almost every individual-strangers, acquaintances alike- at arm's length. His professionalism second nature at this point carried in almost all situations, only to be dropped in private with the closest of company. With a mind sharp as a knife and a lack of empathy to match, he is armed to the teeth to excel in a business and crime setting.
The fact that his occupation combines both flawlessly allows Yao to function at his 'best'. This however, is not always true. His dedication to his position has proved to be compromising toward his health on multiple occasions in the past. Never would he let it show, however. He holds himself to an impossibly high standard, and sees needless emotion as weakness. Better to internalize his emotion than let it show, no matter the complications it may cause.

It is known that Yao has been in the Family for many years. But much of his beginnings were lost when the majority of members retired. What is known is thus
Born originally to his father and mother, Daichi was raised from the beginning under the sole purpose of being the heir to his father's successful business. Every move he made, every breath he took was observed with great scrutiny and critique.
Yao rarely really interacted with his mother, she was a quiet, sheepish woman who was often abused by her husband. It wasn't really hidden from Daichi, he often saw the violence first hand but said nothing out of fear of punishment. Overtime he stopped really reacting to it at all, the toxicity becoming something he grew accustomed to. His father worked him very hard to be perfect, to not show his emotions, to never misstep. If he failed in any respect he was also subject to abuse-though not as physical since his father didn't want to damage the 'product’. Yao succeed at his father's wishes and excelled in school, and the like. He was an extremely intelligent boy. But it was at a large cost to his mental health. While he seemed disconnected on the outside, on the inside he was crumbling away with a deep seething hatred toward the world that had forced him to exist. The difference was that time had equipped him with the tools to hide these emotions and keep them locked up far away, so that he would never show weakness.
Childhood gave way to young adulthood, and as a teenager Daichi's skills as a leader and manager were to be put to the test at every opportunity. He was provided with hands on opportunities to train the CEO-to-be in what he'd need to know. He was sent to study abroad for months at a time-often with little to no contact with his family in the meantime. When Yao was home, relations were rocky at best. Both parents couldn't seem to be in the same room without a fight ensuing, and violence soon after. Daichi didn't see the action itself as distasteful, only the idea that a man such as his father would sully his hands doing such brutish deeds.
It was upon his return from studying in China that Yao arrived at his home to find it too quiet. The silence was interlaced with a muffled wheezing, which Yao had traced to a kitchen, and was met with a gruesome sight. It seemed that his mother and father had gotten into a battle neither would recover from. His mother was face first on the floor with a cracked skull, and his father was sitting not far away trying to stop the blood flow from where he had been stabbed by a bottle. That man who raised him to lead, to not feel, to choose: told him to get the authorities. Instead, Yao took in the scene and felt the strangest sense of calm he'd ever felt. Then he walked out of the house and left his father to bleed.
He had been on the streets for only a few days before he was found by Ryouta. The man had seen Yao as he was in that moment, a sixteen year old boy who'd seen enough pain to stop caring what more his future brought. Yao was adopted into Ryouta's family, and spent the next five years serving him with utmost loyalty.
Something happened in between then and now. There's a reason he is still in Japan and not with the others. But whatever that reason is has been, at least for now, lost to time.
