➣ Personal:

Personality:

+ Observant -Douglas keeps a curious and wary eye on the world around him and has a natural attention for detail.

+ Collected- His job emphasizes a need to wear many faces- to do that one grows an ability to not show their own when they don’t want to. Douglas is capable of being calm in the face of adversity, and ready to handle situations with his utmost grace.

+ Empathetic - Good at reading people and how they feel, and emulating that emotion back to them. Douglas often tries to put himself in others’ shoes and has a good tendency to be objective.

+ Personable - Though a natural introvert, Douglas can talk with the best of them. He says what either you want to hear- or what he thinks is best at the moment. Capable of complete transparency.

o Ambitious - Coming from nothing, he wants to prove he’s worth the effort. Douglas knows what he wants and is often prepared to do what he must to get it and beyond.

o Independent - Stemming from long days alone, he handles himself well. Though it can often be lonely. Douglas finds being around people for too long to be exhausting.

o Inquisitive - He likes giving questions. And even more: He likes getting answers. Answers make good stories. Answers expand one's' point of view.

o Cautious- He doesn’t know what lurks around the next corner. He doesn’t know if they or it hates him. Douglas has managed to avoid getting beaten up to this point, and it's thanks to him being (sometimes overly) careful.

- Spiteful- Douglas is ready to hate someone forever if given a reason to. He is well and prepared to make sure said individual feels his wrath in some way shape or form. Those who mistreat him are rarely ever forgotten.

- Guarded- Much of Douglas’s personality during work is a front. A well spoken, patient face to which you soon learn a name. But even as a friend, Douglas will be careful. Distant. Wary. It’s so easy to gather information to hurt someone with these days- he certainly wouldn’t want that to happen to him.

- Petty- The little things matter. The little wins matter. Yes, you may not know it but he is keeping score.

- Hedonistic - ; )

Biography

Douglas Jeremy Grey was not always addressed as such. He was actually born Jaylen Micheal Bond. Though his name was changed when he was adopted at the age of three. A fact that Douglas always knew (and so did everyone else) as he bore absolutely no resemblance to his father whatsoever. What he did NOT know, however, was that his father had just come off of a long, turbulent marriage with a woman whom he loved very much. With her went his biological child; and that Douglas, the poor orphaned boy, was primarily a coping mechanism who was chosen because his hair was ‘unique’.

Conrad Grey was a profoundly successful and wealthy banker. In order to keep that very reputation and income, the man often frequented work more than his son. Douglas didn’t feel completely unloved because of this. Just mostly. He spent little time outside of their home where he found tension and ridicule against his race and class. As racial tensions continued to rise in Detroit his way of life was highlighted as an oxymoron to his peers. Too black to be rich. Too rich to be black. A good book was much less judgmental, and miles safer. He even took up writing thanks to the encouragement of his then nanny. His writings were highly detailed. Douglas really had a knack for it. Tales of knights, dragons, and astronauts wrote themselves quickly and with fervor. Perhaps too much, as by pubescence it has seemed that Douglas had used every last drop of whimsy he had and turned to detailed accounts of events instead.

Over his teenage years his distance from his father grew more and more with every passing day. His eighteenth birthday was where the downward spiral would begin, as distance turned eventually to hostility - and with it came spite and rebellion from the boy. Douglas attended the Northwestern University in Chicago where he proceeded to do very little studying and very much drinking. Douglas found he rather liked the frat life. Parties, alcohol, drugs, whatever he could do that he was never permitted before. For two years responsibility was a distant fantasy. His first semesters he barely skated by with minimal grades and unimpressive papers. His sophomore year was less forgiving, and before Douglas could correct his error he was dismissed from the program.

Embarrassed and angry with himself, but too coddled to fix the situation: Douglas Grey brooded. Wasting his father's money in the moment felt great. Felt like he was punishing the man for caring about it more than him. However, in the present: facing judgement was much less appealing. To his fortune (and confliction) another chance was given. A final chance. At twenty Douglas attended the University of Minnesota to obtain his master’s degree in journalism with his senior year presenting an internship for the Star Tribune. Said opportunity eventually turned into a full-time job with the newspaper as a feature writer.

While once a shy, quiet child- Douglas had grown out of his shell during his years in Chicago; and this new, guarded personality only grew more as he was molded and trained to be the ‘friend’ in the room. The person who you could tell information. The person who could change at the drop of a hat to get a story. It made him very popular (in and out of work). With his piece eventually being a series of stories on ideal vacation spots within the United States. Other papers always posted of Florida, or California, or somewhere warm. Douglas was happy to take the opportunity to push the Midwestern and Northern spots into limelight (while getting to enjoy these spots for himself). It was this task that brought him to Cherry Falls, Washington.

Douglas had been both unfortunate and fortunate when the outbreaks began. On one hand: He almost died when poking his nose into the panicked words of chaos that began overtaking the small down. As far as he’s concerned, he may very well still die. But if he doesn’t? Then he’ll be quite pleased when his article is on the front page of the Star Tribune.

TLDR-
-Douglas was adopted by rich banker father whom he grew some serious daddy issues from
- Douglas grew up lonely and picked up reading as result- which lead to writing.
- He went to university. Flunked cause he was partying too much. Then tried again and succeeded.
- Journalist for the Minneapolis Star Tribune woooo
- Was doing a piece on Cherry Falls when infection hit.

Likes

-Self Care- Douglas prides himself on his appearance, and holds others to that standard as well.

-Spiders - He thinks they are cute, crafty little creatures. And they eat other bugs. Even better.

-Snow - Winter, though bitter cold, is Douglas’s favorite holiday. Nothing wakes him up more than a crisp breath of fresh, freezing air and a cup of warm coffee.

-Natural Ambiance- Douglas is used to constant conversations and hum drum of everyday city life. But what makes the end of the day so rewarding is being able to sit
back in silence, and listen to the noise of the wind, and cars far below.

-Pink- It’s his power color.

-Instrumental music - Especially if it’s got a good beat. Gets his writing juices flowing without disrupting thought.

-Literature - A given with his profession. Newspapers, books, letters and more. Douglas finds joy in reading most things. Nonfiction is his favorite.

-Warm personalities- Someone who makes him feel welcome- without him actually needing to try at all. Easier to interview and easier to be around.

Dislikes:

- Sports - He can’t get his head around it. They were never of his interest and likely never will be. With the exception of figure skating.

- Poor Grammar- More towards written than spelled. Douglas is a natural editor- seeing flaws go unfixed bug him.

- Hard rock- Too loud, too many lyrics.

- Being questioned - Douglas likes being the one asking the questions, not answering them. Being the center of attention is not his forte and he’d prefer to avoid it if possible.

- Dirty Shoes/ Tracking mess - See self care.

- Detroit- Due to his upbringing and feelings of abandonment being plastered onto the city itself, Douglas hopes no never have to set foot there ever again and has thus far succeeded.

- Failure - Ingrained in him is a natural need to succeed. To be noticed and validated for his efforts. When this is not received Douglas takes much chagrin

- Personal Projects- Douglas is not very naturally creative. He doesn’t write stories without a basis in reality, and he doesn’t knit or draw. He usually needs to see something before he can envision it. This makes many creative projects rather frustrating for him.
