Alright, here's my 'make up' piece for the last one I submitted. Denyss, I hope you're happy, sir... Tell me I'm redeemed.

Anyway, this piece took waaaay longer than most of my stuff because the shading was crazy and, omfg, the clothes? Who in their right mind draws plaid, argyle, and stripes all in the same picture anyway? (Em... me, apparently. Stupid stupid.) So I hope you like it, damnit. Meh!

The title I need to explain. This boy (the models name is Steve Morgan, btw) reminds me so much of foreign countries and travel. He's like the poster boy for untouchable infatuation. See, once upon a time when I was something stupid like eleven years old I was standing in a ticket line in Hawaii's Honolulu airport with my parents. I'm just standing there minding my own business when I hear this beautiful slur of French hit my right ear. When I turn I see a Frenchman speaking to his son, and when I see the son... my my my. My heart pretty much swelled up and launched itself into my throat. He was absolutely gorgeous. Far too old for me at age eleven of course, but gorgeous just the same, and he was standing there listening to his father with this cool confidence that stuck in my head for weeks afterward. I take that situation and I put it into this piece.

Rue St. Vincent is a street in Paris in the Montmarte district, and upon that street is a little club called Au Lapin Agile. This club, back in the 1910's, was hugely popular with artists and intellectuals. Famous painters, poets, and writers would frequent this club, and Au Lapin Agile is still one of the most popular nightspots in all of Paris to this day. I picked the street and the club because I picture this boy standing outside, leaning up against a brick wall, smoking his cigarette beneath a flickering street lamp and watching people walk down the lane. And of course, as he watches, the girls that just passed him by crane their necks to get another look before they turn the corner. A shining example of a momentary glimpse that lasts ages.
