Description I don't know, but after looking at 's vast Simpsons gallery and her fascinating Burns/smithers fanart I really felt like digging through my old doodles and coloring some of my old stuff - so here's Burns and his two Smitherses--

Hope you like it

I've been looking at your Simpsons fanart and I must say I'm amazed at all the possible ways they could be interpreted, just because of subtle details like the lines and your use of colors.

In this one for instance, I tend to view Smithers Jr. standing in the red as symbolizing the perpetual risk that his devotion to Mr. Burns could very well be the end of him, either by causing his premature death as it did to his father before him, or at the very least by destroying him emotionally. He's already had to trample his own principles countless times and you know that if he had to sacrifice himself for his boss, he would in a heartbeat.
Then there's the way Burns is staring at his late friend, as if stuck in that moment, while the son to whom he turns his back seems almost invisible in the background. Maybe it's just me reading too much into this (as I tend to do shamelessly ), but the way I see it, the loss of Smithers Sr. affected Burns much more than he would have thought, and that might be the reason why he's been colder with the second Smithers, perhaps fearing that getting too attached would only hurt him more should he lose him too. The way Burns talks about friendship as one of the three "demons" a businessman must slay, I've always gotten the feeling that allowing one of his employees to become his closest friend only to see him die on the job was probably something Burns had no intention of going through again, thus perhaps that professional distance he (almost) always maintains with Smithers...

Anyway, this is just my personal analysis, but I could be completely off, so please feel free to let me know if you were trying to express something different that I may have missed here.
All I can say is that no matter what it was actually meant to represent, there's an awful lot that can be projected into it and that makes it frankly brilliant.

Oh wow! XD

Thank you so much for your wonderful comment Β

Looking back at it, your analysis pretty much sums it up perfectly - The episode "The Blunder Years" really felt weird to me, Burns seemed to actually feel deeply sad that his partner/assistant just died of radiation. And following that we get Burns as he is now, the cold, kind of insane, heartless business man that he is. Burns must have gone through the "abandon emotions so i don't get hurt" scenario and it really got me inspired

Hehe, you're welcome!
I'm glad to know that my own interpretation of your drawing wasn't too far from the way you perceived these characters' dynamics yourself.

I agree, "The Blunder Years" was a strange and surprisingly serious episode. It made Burns and Smithers' relationship even more messed up and pretty darn tragic.
Heck, the way the situation has evolved, I'd say a movie could actually be made based on that story alone and it would practically turn out to be Oscar material.
It always impresses me how a mostly satirical cartoon like The Simpsons manages to really make us care about those crazy characters.

I really like how you draw Smithers Sr. Β And poor Smithers Jr., I feel sorry for him there... He looks like he needs a hug.

I really love this kind of fanart, specially if Smithers Sr. is in it, because it's my favorite one <33 (btw I'm Gav-Imp with another account)

Burns/Smithers is great, but I love Burns/Smithers Sr. even more because it's beautiful and tragic ;w;

Thanks!

i love your lines, they just give so much character to the drawing in general. and do not get me started on that beautiful color scheme omg.. in a way this drawing seems like a metaphor/message that smithers jr. loving mr. burns will harm him just as it did with his father and with the red that overlaps him..
