Description Later on the same day, a historical event took place. The Palatine steam tour from London Euston non stop up the WCML terminated in Manchester Piccadilly, the first time in 10 full years that steam has been into the trainshed at Manchester Piccadilly.

The tour was headed by LNER Class A4 Streamlined 4.6.2 number 60019 "Bittern", another loco which I have never seen for myself, but which I have uploaded onto DA before, when my dad saw her at Clapham Junction here . Except this time as she was coming up non stop, Bittern carried her second water tender which she would have carried in public service on non stop runs along the ECML. She is seen here approaching her final destination at Manchester Piccadilly, which was packed out with gricers.

What could I say about this, what could I say, well I could say emm, well its pretty obvious no? Humm, I think I can sum this whole picture up in one quick sentence, lets have a go.

Its a Mainline Working A4, with two tenders coming right into Manchester Piccadilly station, first A4 ever too and first steam in five years.

So its pretty well, super amazingly fantastic, once in a lifetime opportunity! And CJ has captured it Beautifully!! How can you not capture such a day without I slight bit of fantasticness (that's right I made a whole word up just for the occasion) Congrats!!

The jumble of overhead catenery coupled with the effect of the telephoto lens enhance this great photo!

You've got to love the shape of these engines

I Like the engines 'Sir Nigel Greasley' and 'The Union of South Africa'

60009 is out of action at the moment, she is a very very tired engine, and due to a recent spate of failiures has been withdrawn for a much needed heavy general. 60007 however is still active, I saw that engine at Barrow Hill for the LNER II gala with Tornado, a fine machine by all accounts.

I thought Tornado was really good, I stood on her footplate at the GCR last year.

One of the lucky few to do so I reckon, I'd love to cab her at some point...

It was good, but I was only on there for a minute as I was with my grandad and i didn't want to leave him alone for to long.
