Companion piece to Chaos .

This is one of twenty-one test renders I produced trying to make this concept work. The quality is still not where I need it to be. But...I give up.

I like this flame very much I prefer it to "Chaos"

I love B&W and this is great. I especially like it when an initial glance makes it look like solid black on a solid white background but looking a bit closer reveals gradients of gray around the edges (as in your example).

I think I like "chaos" just a slight bit more, but honestly I'm not sure why - maybe because it has more black in it. However, I do love the different spirals in this one, very mesmerizing design I must say.

Thanks! I personally thought it was kind of blurry due to using Flam3.

Scarcely less chaotic than its nominally more Erisian sister, yet marginally my choice of the pair. The sense of depth is quite something

This is great - love the depth and dimensionality (is that a word?)!

Thanks so much!

And yes, apparently dimensionality is a word. My spell-checker didn't ping it as incorrect.

I find it pretty compelling myself.... you could fall into the center & just keep going. What is it about this that frustrates you so ? If you don't mind me asking, that is.

Fantastic clarity and depth and solidity: so much to explore in this image

ClaireJones In reply to WelshWench [2007-09-15 02:13:01 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Actually, the full view is a compressed version of the original (original width: 960, and full-view: 800), so some of the problems are most likely diminished. But you can still see how some of the "shadows" don't fade out properly, for instance, near the bottom of the render. Using Curl really distorts the flame so that some areas look fine, whereas some of the areas are pulled too far and show some pattern. I used a bit of Gaussian Blur, but that makes rendering on a white background such a pain. I think I ended up using Flam3, which helped blur some of the shadows, but also blurred too much of the less dense areas. At some point, you just have to give up before going mad.

And that was probably more of a technical a response than you wanted.

Not at all, I'm always fascinated by the process other people go through when creating fractals.

I've neglected apo for a while and now I'm feeling suitably inspired by all the new plug-ins, I'm struggling to work out how to best use them.

I finally cracked yesterday and downloaded my first plugins. Since I'm still in this Rings2 phase, I've switched to Lazysusan. It's...interesting.

Not to me, though! I still want to punch the monitor every time I see this piece. So frustrating.

But, I am glad you like it, because I was quite pleased when I first designed the piece. That is why I kept rendering it until I got it (mostly) right.
