Well, actually I don't use PTs for the shadowing and lighting as you said, but used SAI instead. However, it's the same method, though maybe the name of the tool in two programs are different. First I make a copy of the layer of my main image (the one I want to shadow). Here you have two ways:

1. On that new layer, used Opacity Lock (in SAI) to cover all the colors. Then change it into black by painting on it.

2. You can reduce the light by using brightness, it will turn to black.

After that, to make it easier to erase where you want to, reduce the opacity of the 'shadow' layer (I prefer 80%), then use soft eraser with low hardness (in PTs) or low density (in SAI) and slightly erase the black where you want to see the detail of the original layer. After that, turn the opacity of the 'shadow' layer into 100% as before.

About the lighting, actually when you erase it's brighter already, but to make it like being reflected by light (here I always use SAI), I simply open a new layer and slightly paint the colors I want to be bright, like white and yellow, and turn the mode of the layer to "Luminosity".

That's the way I do. Hope it can be help sorry for my complex explanation. If you have any question, just ask

Cũng được, nhưng nhìn nó cứ hơi giả giả, chắc tại BG và object ko hợp nhau nên thiếu độ harmonization và dimension. À quên, contrast cũng có vấn đề nữa

Đừng có gọi là thím, nghe phát mà mệt luôn (that's why I hate using Vietnamese here if it's unnecessary). Harmonization và dimension thì cứ giở từ điển ra mà coi, có nghĩa là "hòa hợp" và "không gian". Trong art mà ko cái 2 yếu tố này và contrast (tương phản) là coi như cũng chả đâu vào đâu cả. Còn làm chặp là làm riết rồi quen (VNI lẫn ENG ko rành là sao?)

The background is up to the idea that you set for your character (story/character/setting/situation...etc.). Normally for fighting/action screen, people prefer to use fire or flash...

For the background I chose in this picture, there's a reason relating to the character at the beginning. First the gradient of yellow/khaki mix with red and green is his color features. Then the blood brushes was used for the reason of his class (Marauder/Killer/Assassin/... -> relate to one theme). Next, the chain was stated for his skills and backstory... actually the small poem in the background shows most of my intention when creating the background

Actually this design make me crazy. I didn't know what's wrong with my computer that I couldn't save a SAI file and when I created PNG file with PS, it's crashed Q_________Q
So I had to use the computer in Digital Art class to make a new SAI file (I'm used to this more than PSD)

But don't worry, it will come out pretty nice
And may I change this teasor into a wallpaper-like version later when he comes out? What do you think?

No, I just color and save, but when I reached his daggers, the program said that 'Saving canvas failed'O_______O
I know the teaser is quite big, but it's just because I don't want to waste the resolution so I didn't change the image size (and because I used it for my desktop too)

Of course you can. I just change the shadow later to his render because I like the BG quite a lot

Oh, it happened many times before, even my concept of Aerial Assassin had the same problem. That's why it's quite annoying when I CG the lineart (I don't know if there's anything happen next Q_Q)
