hes a real small one, heh ive never seen one so small. most (not that thats very many of course) of the ones around here are about as big as my hand
but thats a great shot and they do have a strange gait..

You know, I used to think that all mantises were identical, until I saw this photo. The thing is, I encountered one in the wild some time ago and - like you - couldn't resist a macro: [link] (although I wasn't brave enough to place it on my hand). I guess they really can be different - the coloration as well as the eyes seem different. Great shot!

What I find so fascinating about these critters is they have necks and can actually swivel their heads without turning their bodies. They'll also bite a divot out of you three times the size of their bodies. I don't know how they manage that, but pray to god one never crawls up your pants leg.

Thats a great shot. I'm glad you have your finger in there as a size comparison. I really wish we had Mantises in the UK cos they're my favourite insect and I've only ever seen them behind glass in a zoo.
