It's funny to think Sonic The Hedgehog all started from this one game, the game that had two types of Sonics, one for the Mega Drive (Left side) and one for the Sega Genesis (Right side) each had their own style and thing, Mega Drive Sonic had a manga series ( Shogaku Yonensei Sonic ) where Amy Rose and Charmy bee made their debuts, also a OVA which lasted for two parts (put together into one film for English release) while Genesis Sonic had a few cartoons (SatAm, Aosth) and a long running Archie comic book series which is still running to this day!
I tried to remake both covers into this mesh up of a Sonic pic! X3
sort of based on a idea I did before a few years ago.

I love the designs of both Sonics, but I prefer the American Sonic in general.
In addition I would like to include the fact that besides Sonic SatAM and AoStH the American Sonic also has Sonic Underground. ^^

Japanese sonic has yellow or golden buckles on his shoes

On the sides of his shoes you can't see from this angle, it's why a lot people think he got the buckles from Sonic CD, only because it's one of the first times you see him from all angles (in game intro. )

Not really, Mega Drive Sonic in Japan never sold that much, there were still behind Nintendo and such.
while Genesis Sonic alone (1 and 2 specially) sold tons of MD/GENS and is what made SEGA bigger then Nintendo (before they messed it up with the 32X and Saturn)
