Description The CSS&SB had an immaculate right-of-way and well tended equipment. Just outside Michigan City, shot from the front of an interurban car here is an eastbound freight, probably connecting to the C&O.

Do you have any shots of the passenger trains.

They abandoned much of the right-of-way between Chicago and Milwaukee.

I'm guessing you are thinking of the North Shore... which shut down before I had a chance at it. But I do have shots of museum North Shore cars as well as the South Shore live. Look at my Journal (CSS&SB, CNS&M)

Yes.

I was thinking of the North Shore.

Will go look now.

Electrified lines in the US are not that common as far as I know, and to see one on a shot so old came as quite a surprise for me And I spot push pockets

They are fairly common on the East Coast. Sully has had some great shots. Here in Chicago there are 2, the South Shore and the old Illinois Central (now Metra) Electric and a few others way, way west. Did you happen to see [link] ?

There are also all the CTA lines which are 3rd rail powered.

I saw that one, but am much more amazed to see such old pics. As you might know, my interest lies mainly on older electric engines starting after the second world war when it comes to Germany, but concerning the US, I'm just now seeing what kinds of rolling stock they once must have had. Especially vids like this [link] and of course pics such as this one or those of the old interurbans show that there is much more to American railroading than I would have though until now. Like many Europeans, I made mistake of assuming that railroading in the US has been reduced to freight trains pulled by diesel engines, due to the nation's attraction to the car that killed passenger transport. Of course, I'm seeing Metra or NJ Transit using electrics, but compared to Germany, its a very small percentage of lines that have a catenary. Looks like I'll have to delve deeper into the history of US railroading

Besides C&O, CSS&SB also connected to the MC, Monon and NKP at Michigan City.
