Description
The Folland Gnat was designed as a private venture Light Fighter concept with it’s tiny size being easier and cheaper to make than other jet fighters.
The RAF did not want a new fighter, but several countries liked the F.1 including Finland, India, and Yugoslavia. But the RAF did want a new fast jet trainer, so Folland developed the slightly larger T.2 two-seater.
Gnat F.1 was armed with 2 x 30mm cannon and saw combat with the IAF in the wars with Pakistan in 1965 and 1971.
This example is a Gnat T.1 of the 4th Flying Training School 1971.
