Description
The McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet entered service in 1983 was a change of direction for the US Navy and USMC as it was designed as a fighter and attack aircraft from the start.
The Hornet has excellent aerodynamics and despite some criticism of it’s load capacity, proved to be a good all-rounder, and formed the template for the larger Super Hornet.
The armament varies by version but the baseline is 1 x 20mm cannon and up to 9 hardpoints for missiles, rockets, and bombs.
This example is a F/A-18A Hornet of VFA-81 US Navy 1986.
