Drew this back in 2003 using OpenCanvas, and I have to say that this is one of my favorite pieces of anything I've drawn. My late grandfather who had passed away the previous year left a huge impression on me my entire life since he spent a better part of his life painting beautiful scenic pictures. This was my tribute to him. The name 'Cardinal's Paradise' comes from the fact that I used to visit him in St. Louis and he would sit me down next to him while he painted a picture. I would have my own canvas and try to keep up, mimicing what he was doing. I still have his oil paint set, but still haven't tried my hand at using them. Now that my wife and I have a little boy on the way, I think I may give it another shot so that he can sit next to me and I can teach him how to paint as he grows up .
