Run, a voice in Phea's head screamed, and her legs began moving without her needing to think about it. The quad sprinted through the darkening forest, thorns hooking at her legs, egg gripped to her chest. She fled from the the creatures.

The whispering, shadowy, grinning creatures...

They emerged from the surrounding trees briefly as Phea ran by, glowing eyes strikingly green in contrast to the darkness around. The whispers grew louder the more fearful Phea grew. She looked around desperately as she ran to find some path, any path, that could help her leave the forest. But there was none. Phea couldn't fly either, due to one of her wings being wrapped tightly around her egg.

Help me, Phea thought, panicking. She closed her eyes briefly, an attempt to block out the whispers.

Suddenly, Phea felt...different. She peeked slightly, and realised that everything around her had changed; trees seemed to blur faster and the air seemed to hit her like a wall as she sped. The corners of her eyes seemed to glow an orange colour. Phea recognised the colour from other wyngrew...when they were doing wind magic. Magic. Phea gasped with wonder; all the fear seemed to drain from her immediately, and was replaced with amazement.

Only then did she notice that she had finally reached a clearing, and she skidded to a rough halt. Looking behind at the forest, Phea could still hear the whisper, though they were very faint now. In the distance was Wynsiph, and the blessed Nova Tree. Phea could almost cry with relief. She had found the egg, she had escaped the forest...she had used magic for the first time. Then Phea caught her breath. The horrors of the spites forced her way back into her head. Those whispers...Phea knew they would haunt her for a really long time. Dazed, she stumbled back to the nook. Never again...never again am I going to that forest.
