Description Silence. That was all that was heard in the forest. No creature crawled through the undergrowth, no wind rippled through the twisted and clawlike branches of trees which bulged out the ground, smothered in knee-deep powder snow. A thick mist had settled over the forest like a blanket, brushing the ground with its cold eerie touch. The sun had dipped behind the horizon a while ago, and the recent arrival of darkness left inky shadows, which stretched along the forest floor and hugged it with its cold embrace. All was still. All was dark. It was as if everything was frozen in time.

Despite this, Phea wasn't scared. Even as the quad trudged through the snow, she only felt peace and a sense of familiarity from exploring the forest, for she had done so long ago when she was a wyngling. Neither the dark nor the cold seemed to bother her either, for her newly-developed slit eyes improved her vision and a cloak Alma gave to her from the attic helped keep her warm.

As the forest grew darker, doubt and worry began to seep slowly into her mind; What would happen if I can't find the egg? Phea also began to worry whether she was straying too far from Wynsiph; After all, there were many stories of wyngrew getting lost in the forest. Forever. Even with wings Phea knew she couldn't fly up and see where she was, for the branches above were plentiful and they tangled with one another.

Phea tried to push these thoughts into the back of her mind. I must stay positive. The quad tried to distract herself by looking around. Phea noticed the beauty of the forest; the frost that covered the bark of trees, the glittering snow that covered the ground. Once she saw these things, Phea didn't feel so worried anymore, and the anxiety in her eyes were replaced with wonder.

She would have walked right past it if it wern't for the egg's bright contrast with the surrounding blues and purples of winter; Orange flashed in the corner of Phea's eye as she walked past a tree. Turning her head, Phea saw the egg, cradled in the roots of the tree. "There it is," she whispered, an attempt to convince herself that she wasn't hallucinating. She advanced to the tree and slowly picked it up. The egg was sitting in snow, but Phea could feel that it was still warm. Whoever eggnapped this must have left it here not long ago Phea thought, suddenly struck with a horrible thought: What if the eggnapper was here, watching her from the shadows? The quad pushed the thought away, for warming the egg was her top priority right now. She cradled it in her strong arms, reminded of the time she found Lumi's egg. At this moment, relief began to seep through her.

"Thank Chii I found you, little eggy" Phea said contently as she sighed, holding the egg to her chest. It was a good thing she found it before it froze too. "Let's get you back home-"

Just as Phea began to wonder how she was going to carry the egg back to the nook, a strange noise broke the silence of the forest. A noise...that was right behind her...

Phea spun her head behind her. Her ears dropped as she was wrenched from her thoughts. Fear struck her, and Phea found herself unable to move. Her heart was thumping loudly; she couldn't breathe. What are those noises? They sounded like...whispers.

"H-hello...?" As Phea continued to stare into the gloom, she could almost make out figures. They appeared to be tall and thin, with crescent moon heads, long tails and sharp claws. The things which petrified Phea the most were their buldging eyes, glowing green...and sharp rows of teeth which shone in the night.

Spites linger outside these woods. Phea could hear Alma's warning ringing in her head, as the shapes whispered from the darkness. Phea didn't think it was going to be a problem, for she had never seen a spite before...and besides, wasn't she close to the Nova Tree?

This is just my imagination. Phea tried to convince herself, as she held the egg closer to her. The shapes kept appearing at the corners of her eyes - before disappearing when she looked their way. However, the whispers never stopped - if anything, they grew louder. They leaked into Phea's head, leaving her panicked and confused. The whispers were so loud the quad could almost make out what they were saying:

"Sssssso...lost....sssssssso.....alone..."
