Description The Tree Of Life is derived from old Celtic customs, forests of the old world were vast covering whole countries. When a tribe would clear land for a settlement they would always leave one tree in the center, to them this was called in irish "crann bethadh" Tree Of Life. Trees touch all three realms of existence, the heavens with branches, the underworld or spirit world with roots and the mortal world with their trunks.

The metal is ancient bronze (cu90:sn10) very tough metal, it is harder then cast iron, I alloy the metal myself using copper scraps (wires, pipes) and tin. This piece can be cast in silver or pewter too. The metal weighs about 18 grams, and is about 4cm in diameter. As usual the cord is three braid waxed hemp with adjustable length.

Nice! What kind of casting did you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cloud-Dragonz In reply to finaformsora [2012-09-04 13:18:05 +0000 UTC]

I used lost wax casting, with jewelry gypsum investment, I always us vacuum casting (since thats what I have), the item is cast in bronze 90:10 copper tin.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

finaformsora In reply to Cloud-Dragonz [2012-09-04 13:44:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah, thats what i thought but i wasnt sure. Not the vacumm part, just the lost wax. And so i would like to know: how much would you say it costs to start a lost wax foundry. I think i would need a kiln? And the ceramic slurry, and the furnace. I was going to start a snd casting foundry before, but i have to rethink what type since i need to cast something called a keyblade like the ones in my gallery.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cloud-Dragonz In reply to finaformsora [2012-09-04 15:01:25 +0000 UTC]

For something that size you would need a very large metal furnace (something similar to sculpture sizes) and probably a pottery size burn-out oven, the pour whole thing would be a two man affair, moving the mold pouring the metal ect. It gets a lot more costly the larger you go. I would recommend getting a couple good books on lost wax casting before buying any equipment.

finaformsora In reply to Cloud-Dragonz [2012-09-04 16:26:43 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, that helped more than you know. I was already planning on Building a big furnace, but i still need to upgrade the blower i have now.

Cloud-Dragonz In reply to finaformsora [2012-09-05 04:51:34 +0000 UTC]

I started out that way and went smaller You should have seen the monster I build for burning wvo, I actually built a really nice babington burner for burning wvo. But it was still to big for this work.
