Oh, I use the terms when making comics and they TF cast are saying it, or if I was still writing fics, I'd use the correct terminology. But when I'm just making a comment, I don't really care as much on which work I use, 'cause they mean the same thing.

Well... He opened his cockpit, and the inner workings of that open up so that Ratchet can extract the sparklings from within, in a much less messy version of a C-section. Or at least that's what I think happened. XD

I think it really depends on how you look at it. Realistically, I think they reproduce asexually (without a mate), such as in the case of "budding" (if you have heard of it)--and the love they have for each other is merely a social construct. Since the show was made for kids, they don't really elaborate on how Cybertronians breed.
In fanfiction/fanart, though, it's a little more liberating. Remember, Cybertronians are not mammals, nor are they designed by humans, so it's not that far-fetched that a male (mech) could possibly have a sparkling too, especially if both genders are built with the same, ahem, "machinery", which would also make sense. Plus, there aren't many femmes to begin with in hardly any continuity, so if only femmes could give birth there would be very little reproduction. In this one story I wrote, Starscream had Megatron's twins (coincidence really) and he had the babies similar to the way a human mother would, except the sparklings start out attached to the spark, forming a carrier bond that physically (but not emotionally) snaps once the sparkling is ready to be born.

That's basically how I pictured this happening. XD After all, removing little sparklets from a main spark--their own living and beating soul--would wipe one out afterwards. Its a much cleaner process, though, compared to how humans go about it.
And I personally like to see that femmes are their own specific class of species on Cybertron. For example, you got flyer bots such as Seekers and Shuttles, even giants like that one rocket guy. And for ground bound mechs, you got different types, too, from Minibots, Proxians(if I'm typing that right, basically 'bots like Prowler), etc...Β And then there are also Gunformers, such as Megatron and Shockwave, and other types, such as just objects like Soundwave and Perceptor. And don't forget about the 'bots whom function in a pack of five to join together to make an even bigger mech. They're just all full of different species of the same make. X3

Its still an exhausting procedure to get a life-force that is attached to your spark(soul) detached. They're living robots, so I can imagine certain discharge of disconnection to a strong working connection like three sparks could cause an energy decline on Starscream's end.
When women get a C-section, they're just as tired by the end of it as if they naturally gave birth to it.

That depends if they have private parts down below or not. Considering to make a sparkling only requires to combined sparks, a 'natural birth' wouldn't be needed. And that's going by human standards of a 'natural birth,' not an alien, robotic race.
Personally, I don't mind if they have the junk or not, but this story probably won't have anything too graphic, soooo... I don't think I'll be including sitings of naughty bits. XD Would have to censor them out, otherwise~

Thanks. =3 It was the most messiless way to go about it. XD Other then going the 'construct your own sparkling build to place the spark inside once it extracts from the carrier's' way... but I'm going by a more normal birth pattern of the spark taking essentials from the carrier's body to construct its own physical body protection that starts out basic, and then as it ages, it grows(living metal~) but gets upgrades attached the more developed it becomes.
So as you might of seen, the seekerlets don't have thrusters yet. =d They get that addition later on when they can handle it. Otherwise it would cause a lot of painful accidents.

Its all about the spark~ Well, there are three ways in this story to have a sparkling, and gender mod doesn't matter.
#1: Spark-bonding. That's where you combined two sparks and one of them will willingly carry the sparkling until its fully developed to be removed. And yes, that means a Femme can spark up a Mech, if they want to.
#2; Split-sparking. Basically a single mech or femme can split a piece of their own spark to create a new one(sparkling) and carry it until its ready to be removed... Its a bit harder to succeed with, how the newspark can re-emerge back to its original source, so it can take a few tries to get a sparkling out of it. (Example: Soundwave and his cassettes)
#3: Vector Sigma. Just make a request to have a sparkling, that's it. XD The most easiest, cleanest way to get a sparkling, but its also closer to 'adoption' how the sparkling they get won't have any of their CNA.

Well, Vector Sigma in the G1 series DID grant sparks into already built mods(bodies), so to grant life isn't un-canon for the big golden ball. As for the others... Mainly fanbased. XD
There are some other details on 'how to create a sparkling'--some that are very similar to the ones I states, and others including added on stuff, like needing the co-writer(father) to keep doin' it with the carrier to feed his(or her) CNA into the growing sparkling--sometimes with JUST the spark, other times with the spike equipment.. And some fans theorize that Transformers, though different in build, all have the same lower regions, regardless of mech/femme.

If that were 100% canon(=everyone believes it, refuses to look outside of the box), I'd really wish femmes didn't exist in my Transformers. XD Already I hated the first episode with them included(G1), being nice, caring, dainty little lady bots... BLEEEEEH. Hate that type of women. XD
My type of lady is like Daria(from Daria), Haruhi(Ouran High School Host Club), Misty/Kasumi(Pokemon), Toph(Avatar the Last Airbender), Tetra(Zelda Wind Waker), Lucca(Chrono Trigger), Chie and Naoto(Persona 4), and Keade(Inuyasha). Basically women who can stand and live on their own two feet, are smart, willful, tomboyish, and doesn't need rescuing.
...but that's just me. XD I'm very picky with my ladies~ And most of the time I don't like seeing women caring for children--I prefer seeing boys taking care of kids. Which is why I love Baby & Me(manga).

Same with my taste of ukes and semes(yaoi/yuri). I don't like the cutesy, girly uke type, but boyish cute is okay. Pretty uke is also okay for me~ but I can see semes being pretty/beautiful/manly/and or cutesy. Especially for my yuri side, for some reason I love girly cute semes topping tomboyish girls. XD Is that odd?
