Description Spring 2019 Taum Art Card #4 Flint
This is an art card for the Sweet Luck Spring Taum Art Event!
I'm working on a themed set of these art cards. I'm drawing each Taum with a flower that represents them! <3

I chose these Dahlia 'Rip City' flowers because they are a very hardy flower... from what I understand. And Flint is also very resilient. He's (unintentionally) poisonous and pollutes his environment. He hates it, and he is a very old character. He can manage and survive the harshest environments, much to his dismay. H attempts to keep his whereabouts in these harsh environments and avoids lush healthy environments (to prevent damage to them).

I'm not sure if these colors work together? It's a pretty wide color-range. but I kinda like it :>

Sweet Luck [April 2019 Event-OPEN]
Hello Taumbois, Taumlet(lets) and Friends! And welcome to April’s event!

You know that Easter is just around the corner when you start seeing those pastel, sugary treats popping up in stores! But what if I told you those colorful, marshmallowy candies could be good for something else besides eating? I hope you’re feeling lucky this month because the event this time is all for the high rollers!
Marshmallow taums may be good for eating but, they’re also good for bribing if you’d like to take a gamble! The merchant for this month’s event is a bit fickle, they don’t like opening up for shop until the last few days of April. But! They have a soft spot for those colorful, sugary treats and mayyy be willing to let you try and roll their dice to see if you are able to nab one of their shop items early, with a good bribe of a few sweets of course.

Poor Flint, I want to give him a hug...very carefully XD

You portrayed his painful hopes and desires very nicely here I feel, and the flowers picked are perfect. I LOVE YOUR ART SO MUCH >:U <3

AHHH! :'{D thank you so much Vespisia. That's so sweet. I'm really glad you got emotion from the piece ;0; that was my lowkey goal on all of these cards haha.

Coco this is fantastic, I love how you highlighted the beak and claws, they look sharp as opposed to sticky like the arm or soft like their neck. You're really good with the differentiation of textures while still keeping them organic feeling. They look easy and not at all over worked. This character looks beautifully tragic, the fact that he's accidentally poisoning the things around him really shows through. I want to (carefully) give him a hug.

;;0;; thank you so so much!!! I'm so so so glad that the poison theme shows through on this. It's kinda a difficult topic to depict, at least in a halfbody painting like this. haha.
Now that you mention the 3 diff textures I do notice them :0 I'm not sure how I managed them, but I do love how the subtle smooth gradients in the fur turned out. I think the accidental granulation in the gradients helps to show fuzziness in his fur. And I suppose the straight clean highlights on the claws/beak compared to the wiggly/wavy highlights in the goop help to show the difference in texture there. :>
I think the eyes, luckily, turned out really nice in this painting... they are heavy sad eyes. (The eyes were messed up at first but the white paint around the pupil saved them). The eyes and the deep purple center of the flowers, I think, are what makes the painting give the tragic/pollution feel. What about the painting gives off a pollution theme to you? Just curious. but you don't have to answer if you don't wanna. :> Thanks so much for the lovely comments Noble <3 I really appreciate the time you take to write them! I really do ;0; <3

You're welcome! Flint looks so weighed down by the poison in him. I'm glad I could bring your attention to how much technical skill went into your work =3
I think it's the eyes and the purples but also the thick globs of smoke coming up from the top of his head. It just looks so thick and heavy, plus since it's coming from him it's clear that he's toxic. You're so welcome, you're a delight to comment on =3

oh shoot yeah, you're right about that.. plus the goop and the eyes are the darkest parts of the painting. Man, I should really pay more attention to these things XD I wish they were intentional. A friend once mentioned "Symbolic Composition" to me... and I never knew that existed. I put a lot of effort into like... normal position composition, how everything is placed on the painting, but I didn't realize there was symbolic composition. anyways I suppose the darkest parts of the painting being the sad eyes and the ominous goop would be symbolic composition? maybe? XD I must research that more, but yeah, another neat unintentional victory.
Thanks noble! <3 your inputs always make me so happy and put a smile on my face, and I always walk away learning something about myself or my art XD or with a new idea of something to paint. You're so creative in the way that you view things. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts <3

I think that's exactly what symbolic composition is lol. You're welcome! I'm glad to be helpful!
