Description
I went to an art camp at a farm in Ireland over the summer for three weeks. The camp was called Cow House Studios, and even though I did a photography class while I was there, I decided I would do something with ink for my final project. My mentor, Adam, cut some squares up for me and I got to work. I came up with this square while I was in the process of making it, and I think that is when I make my best art - when I have no idea what I will draw next. Spontaneity fuels the creative process and free expression, and doesn't give you time to think about other peoples' opinions. To me, this piece shows that the only way to counteract the pain that comes with living is to find something to love, to live for or to be passionate about. It is only through filling our minds with positive things like love, friendship, and passion that we can achieve true happiness. This is particularly true for people like me, who have depression or are on the autism spectrum. Over the sixteen years that I have existed, I have learned one thing that has kept me going:
Life may be difficult and filled with pain, tragedy, and loss, but we only get one life, and although there are a lot of bad things in this world, there is beauty everywhere. From kindness to respect, friendship to family, communication to understanding, the beauty of mankind can be found within even the darkest of souls.
