Description I had remembered this little animal as a chipmunk, but now that I have found the photo's of it I realize that it doesn't look like on. I would think that it is a squirell but it's tail was not what I have come to know as a squirells tail. Anyway let me know what you think.

It is a squirrel...
only it's not one of the arboreal variety; It's one of the terrestrial kind.
I don't know where was this taken,
but that looks like a California Ground Squirrel (Otospermophilus beecheyi).

Thank you, I thought maybe a western ground squirrel, but the California Ground Squirrel could be right. This was taken at Point Lobos State Park just south of Carmel CA.

Point Lobos?
Then it's definitely a Californian GS.
I know there's a good population of them there.
In fact when I Googled the name to double check, I noticed that 5 of the images on the first page of results were taken at Pt. Lobos.

Thanks for the info, I thought when I saw the photo again it had to be something like that but just didn't know.

I am not real familiar with them, I have seen them and both my wife and daughter want one but I don't know much about them.

It does look like a squirrel.

I once saw a squirrel with an extra long ringed tail. A mutant? A hybrid (Raccoon/squirrel) or maybe it was a trendy squirrel sporting hair extensions...

It s tail is actually very small, and was kind of flat. It really was in my memory as a chipmunk, so when I found the photo's of it and it was not one I was shocked. I thought maybe it was a western grey squirrel.

He(?) was really well fed, despite signs not to feed the animals I think he did well. He was very happy to sit for photo's! Thanks for the comment.
