Introducing Tovenaar Tanglethorn, the older brother of Tabitha Tanglethorn, who is in turn the mother of three major characters in Faebil 's Innocent Blood saga. A genius alchemist and wildlife scientist with the rugged appearance and jovial speech patterns of an Outback adventurer, "Uncle Tove," as his nieces and nephew call him, serves as a much more positive male role model and guardian compared to their birth father. He works with a large, diverse research team in a facility secluded in eucalyptus trees somewhere in rural Austramerica, where he studies anomalous animals to enlighten the world and build bridges of understanding among species. His bookishness and dedication to his research has kept him from finding romantic love, although his attempt to study a hippie-esque, melon-based dryad nurse named Melanie ultimately helps him come out of his shell. The most recent anomaly in the good doctor's research collection is a strigoi, a non-sapient, extant bat-and-chimp-like primitive ancestor of the modern humanoid vampire, which he has named "Spot" for a blood splotch found on its chin. At his feet now is a dragon hatchling he has yet to name or study.

Tovenaar and Tabitha's parents are Irwin and Ingrid, the latter an immigrant to Austramerica from a region resembling the Netherlands, hence Tovenaar's name, which means "Wizard" in the Dutch language.

I was not able to create a typical Australian side-snap slouch hat with a wizard cap's pointed crown, but I'm sure Faebil can remedy that someday if I don't make it in Vector Land first.
