Description
In this house we stan the infinite diversity of humanity.
Wanted to do something for Pride Month to show my support for the LGBTQ+ community!
Since I have two OCs, Kasumi (above) and Betty (below) who are gay and bi respectively, I thought I'd draw them. And yeah, there are quite a few rainbows in this picture. I don't think you can ever have too many rainbows, right?
Whoever you truly are and whomever you love, be excellent and party on. We see you and we support you!
(And if, like me, you're just trying your best to be an ally: Always be kind, always be respectful, seek out marginalized voices, do your research and ask questions if you don't know or understand, politely! Remember kids... Love is love, trans rights, protect LGBTQ+ youth, TERFs fuck off, respect pronouns!)
Fun facts about this piece:
- In my original plan, Kasumi and Betty were both holding smaller flags, but I decided I wanted the rainbow pride flag to be central to the piece, so I decided to give Kasumi a big flag to hold in a manner a lot of people do at Pride parades.
- The text on Kasumi's shirt design was modelled on the top text from an 80s style text generator called 'Retro Wave'. You can find it here:
photofunia.com/effects/retro-w…
- I worked very hard to make sure Kasumi's t-shirt design actually looked like it was part of the shirt. I cut and moved the text along the clothing wrinkles I'd drawn so it'd look like it was part of the surface. I think I did okay.
- For the record, making the lines of a flag conform to the fabric folds you've drawn in is a PAIN.
- This is the first piece I've done with a slightly different lineart method. I still inked on paper and scanned, but instead of just using a levels adjustment, I also used the threshold adjustment to make the lines into sharp pixels which I edited with the pencil tool. It worked super well I think, it becomes much easier to edit digitally, and when resized it means the lines look super crisp.
