Description This is a (late) Birthday Present for TheHighestPie...Enjolras showing that unexpected musical affinity suggested in her "Eroica." While he doesn't pay any attention to singing birds, I can buy the idea of an Enjolras with a musical ear...there is something about the quality of his voice that makes this plausible to me.

If that's too difficult, then it helps to know that it was inspired by Marguerite's "A Difference of Understanding" [link] , in which Enjolras battles zombie hordes with the wielding of a violin.

No, really - go read it, it's a fantastic story! The title of this piece is explained within the story.

Unlike Pie who plays a violin, I know nothing about the instrument, which may well explain why this looks as it does!

1820s fashion - got to love it.

Interesting how his hand is cut off the page, but it works. Simply charming.

I really love this. The pose, the expression -- focused, dreaming, fervent, rejuvenated by his thoughts -- the sense of motion, the historically-accurate clothing, the delicate flow of the hair... the shading on the edge of the violin is lovely, too. This picture seems to me like a "what-if?" of what might have become of Enjolras if he hadn't needed to lead a rebellion, instead. All of that passion, dedication, and study may have gone into something of beauty instead of war.

Many thanks for you comment, AnneCat - I'm sorry I've been so slow in responding lately! I hadn't thought of it in that light, but I very much like the idea...an alternate possibility of what might have been.

XD OMG Before I even looked at your comments on this piece, all I could think was: "Do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of angry men..." And then I saw that this piece is also features in Cafe Musain. This is very beautiful lineart.

Archangel! With his dreamy, adorable face.

The hands are gorgeous-I like how he's playing the note "C natural." XDDD There's nothing symbolic about that, it's just that I've been practicing modes lately, and all of those are in the key of C. His bow hold is a lot better than mine. The sepia fits!

ColonelDespard In reply to HistoryKnightLS [2009-11-15 06:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Erm...that's a recognisable note, is it? I know nothing about the violin, so was completely dependent on the visual sources I used in putting this together! Glad you like his archangelic face.

Alright, I have to ask since this is the second time this question has come up in the past three days... Have you ever heard of 'ride, Prejudice, and Zombies'? It's a re-write of Pride and Prejudice, and here's the question:
Is Les Miserables calling for a re-write (New and Improved with More Zombies!)?

I had to ask after having this converstion with *CorvidAngel when I saw her zombie Javert...

My younger brother, a Zombie Afficianado, has it. Unfortunately, his girlfriend and a couple of other people all put in requests to borrow it after he'd read it, and I'm way down the loans list! It looked a hoot when I flicked through it.

Honestly, (and I mean this in a good way), is there anything our Enjolras can't do???

LoL! He does more in my pics than in the brick, that's for sure -I don't know if violin playing counts as a "severe enjoyment" or not, but it is so charmingly portrayed in the story.

Miss-Pixie-Duchess In reply to ColonelDespard [2009-11-13 14:34:51 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I can almost picture it. As for it being a severe enjoyment... well, maybe. It's actually something I could see Prouvaire liking a lot. (Well, that and those zombies.)

*drools* yay! Enjy with a violin!
There's definitely something about his voice that suggests musical talent...other than singing. And i think i'm going to have to go read 'a difference of understanding'...what could be better than Enjy beating zombies up with a violin?
(no, really, even though i gushed about the idea, the execution is amazing! *looks back at picture and tries to give him a hug. Hits face on computer screen.*)
"Ow."
