Description A mission by covert COMSTAR agents goes awry when one of the agent’s past comes back to haunt him; a number of his enemies lay an ambush to capture and torture him before his death. His friends are held hostage as he is assaulted – however, in the process, he finds his inner wrath and overpowers his tormentor, and then leads a counter-offensive which his friends join in and kill his enemies.

However as the agents make their escape, another of his enemies gives pursuit – and not by any conventional means; the villain harassed them with a Karnov UR transport, modified into a Gunship.

The agents however arrived and depart in their own special vehicle – a Rotunda armoured car with in-built “extras”. Despite this, the Gunship pursues our heroes with relentless abandon and releases volume after volume of heavy machine gun fire without care or concern to civilians being in the way.

----

I am a fan(ish) of Battletech, but I am more of a lover of the vehicles, aerospace fighters, and starships, than that of the battlemechs. I was told by a friend that they would love to see me do a pic of the famous Karnov UR Transport; however I stumbled on the Sarna site, a factfile on the Rotunda. I loved the idea of a fusion powered armoured car and it reminded me of Captain Scarlet’s MSV, SPV, and James Bond’s special motors.

I had this pic for months but only recently I worked on it; the original position of the Karnov put me off working on this picture; however, re-arranging it into a swooping angle like a preying bird worked, and the rest flowed

The Karnov seldom gets any love so I made her look a brute, done in a form of Special Forces colours.

Love to hear your thoughts peeps

this...may well be your best piece!  Mechs are my bread and butter, but like you, my passion is for all the "peripheral" units, that get overlooked for "MOAR STOMPY ROBOTS!".  Awesome work man!

It too bad that the wheeled and tracked vehicles are on the side lines in the series.

I just gotten into Battletech and it would be if you can play as a tank.

Ooh! Those meanies should pick on something their own size, but looks like the Rotunda's armor is holding up pretty well under fire! She just needs a chance to turn around and give that Karnov UR an LRM blast to the kisser!

Definitely a fantastic idea, the fully loaded, fusion powered armored car. I haven't really delved into the Battletech universe, so I don't too much about the Rotunda, but I like your take on her! She has the sleekness and sporty feel of a sportscar, yet the ruggedness and durability of an APV. And looking at the side of the Rotunda, does she have gull wing doors? Just a thought! Also, what kinds of armaments is she equipped with? Observing her front intakes makes me guess she might have torpedo launchers or small versions of RACs.

Hahha - well the BT world is impressive but nothing to get wild about; think GUNDAM or MACROSS but  with a WW2 slant to it

As for the Rotunda...hmm good question - there are very  few pics of her and the factfile is rather poor -  www.sarna.net/wiki/Rotunda

I made her more than the designers did her, I think they had great ideas but poor delivery of them - which is a shame

My one is armed with a five tube Long Range Missile system and a small laser at present; it is a great idea but like many in the BT universe they were too obsessed with f/king MECHS!

Thank you sir for your great and encouraging words !!

Yes, impressive indeed! I actually got interested in Battletech through the MechWarriors series, and I'll have to admit I may be one of those who are a bit crazy about them *friggin* mechs.

Aww, that' s a shame indeed, but you definitely did her justice, so!

Definitely a great idea! And yeah, it's too bad they didn't put a bit more focus and effort into some of the supporting vehicles.  But that's what the loyal fans are for!

Absolutely, my great friend! Onwards to great creativity!

Hahaha!! Oooh man, I'm considering checking out Battletech- that is some incredible abuse that poor Rotunda can put up with! I must say the concept of a fusion-powered, armoured car is unique to me;

something one would see in a James Bond flick! The power it could put out would be quite something.

You've always had a good feel for vehicles- cars, trucks, starships, fighter jets- the Rotunda here is completely 3-dimensional, and the way it careens to the side at a slight angle off the ground is stunning.

I can see how you trifled with the placement of the modified Karnov; it's a large dark thing in the image, and needed special attention. The downward swoop worked out so well!

Aaah, destruction! Your destruction is what every blow-em-up movie needs more of- flying debris and car parts, shattered directional signs, and bits of asphalt and shell shrapnel! All you see in those flicks

are the explosions with not enough of the dirty stuff. Loving the imposing front of the Karnov here- like a tiger upon a rabbit- and the red of the Rotunda was a good choice!

Hilarious and a very fun pic sir

Colourbrand In reply to I-Plexiglass [2014-01-22 19:24:48 +0000 UTC]

HAhahahahha! Lordie!

Yes...the Battletech world is a wierd one; all the vehicles are conventional in look and function but the tech is rather...hmmm.

I am glad you felt about the predatory gunship and its divebombing feel; It was a struggle until I found the pose and well...rest is history.

And hey, I want a car chase with destruction, fragmentation, and debris - gives more drama!

The red was an afterthought; originally it was going to be warm grey but it made the pic so soulless. Dark red prevented it from becoming a Ferrari!!

Thanks fot the praise on the skills sir - one tries - and speaking of which, when are we going to see some good from you?

Glad you enjoyed this sir

I always thought science fiction should have a fair portion of functionality- not only by appearance, but by definition as well to a degree. The creator doesn't have to be an engineer or a physicist to make it work, but it's gotta sound

a little plausible. That is a shame! For such a popular universe, though, I guess they can get away with a lot.

It reminds me of the stomach-lurching dives that raptors are so well-known for- overall, it boosted the feel of this work a lot.

I know! The more fragmentation and overall destruction the better! Shrapnel is always welcome, hahaha!

Always a pleasure sir-- and I do have a sort of preliminary sitting in the pipeline that I am working on. It is actually nothing impressive, just a set of coloured doodles, but it helps get the art block off.

Cheers!

Ooh a Karnov and a Rotunda. Well if you want obscure BTech units you nailed it my good sir. In fact the only others as obscure as these two that get used by myself on a regular basis are the Hi-Scout and the 135-K

Great imagery here and the Karnov looks awesome. To me the Karnov can be a effective unit if used right. Especially when you use half a dozen of them equipped with a Thumper artillery.

Though there is a hint of irony here too. A ROM operative being attacked by his enemies piloting a ComStar made VTOL. That's got to suck.

Well sir - YOU inspired me.

The Rotunda I just stumbled on, and I know you are a big fan of the Karnov, so rather than have it do the ususal, i.e. pick ups, troop support, I did her as a marauding beast!

Ah yes, the Hi-Scout - another fave of mine!! Must figure out a pic for her....

Hey, life is a wierd foodbowl sir But I am glad you love this - and it dedicated to you sir

Nice hearing from you again my great friend

Me? I inspired you? Jeez I mentioned my Karnov love ages ago. Good memory sir. Lol.

It's true it does need some love from the fans. It's far more versatile a unit that a simple cargo/troop transporter.

The fact it's ComStar built only proves we guys in white know a good thing when we see it.

This is absolutely badass! And nicely staged, too. Poor sports car - so unfair! But I guess if the gunship don't get em first, that menacing 5-pack behind the car might take the ship down in a flash. It's kill or be killed.

I particularly love the gunship - futuristic in shape and colour yet charmingly old-fashioned because of the propeller engines. I love the 'square jaw' feature of the gunship's fuselage. It reminds me of a thug or a bully you don't want to cross in a bar. It felt that it truly looks like a cargo transport retrofitted into a war plane, and confirmed it when I read your description.

Always love to see your battle scenes - they're full of heat and adrenaline!

Heheh - that's the Rotunda - she is no ordinary car - a hefty well armoured thing!!

I love your reaction to the gunship - especially the "square jaw"; that is what makes her look so mean and brutal; a true flying behemoth!!

About 15 years ago, all I wanted for a car was a Rotunda! Who wanted anything else!? I mean, nuclear powered car designed to take Battlemech fire with SRMs and a freaking giant laser! It was the ultimate car!

As far as the pic is concerned, you've really put up the James Bond car feel into this scene! The explosions off the pavement look awesome, the look of the vehicles pop in the pic! Thanks for bringing the Rotunda to life!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Colourbrand In reply to ArdanBlade [2013-12-15 18:29:54 +0000 UTC]

Really? Well hee hee! I am glad I have brought the imagination to some sort of life

Come now, as you have said - a nuclear powered car with missiles and lasers - where else could it go except into the world of Bond, or covert agents eh?

Its my mission to bring cool vehicles in the BT world to the front; the mechs have too much glory; sorry - far as I am concered the vehicles have more character.

Which is cooler - a giant robot or a swift car with secret weapons?

How is the Karnov to you sir?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArdanBlade In reply to Colourbrand [2013-12-15 18:40:00 +0000 UTC]

Indeed you have! What kind of guy doesn't secretly want to be James Bond and play with all the cool toys at some point in their life? Being a secret agent is right up there with being a starship captain, jedi, blackbelt, chosen one, etc...

Again, you have done an excellent job! To be fair, I'll always be a MechWarrior, and I love my giant stompy robots bristling with weapons, but that doesn't mean I don't love the idea of the coolest car in the world as well! It really depends on the mood and what I feel like doing at the time.

The Karnov really has an either Nazi Germany or Eastern Bloc kind of feel to it in your pic (not that having a name like Karnov already didn't kind of set it up in my mind.) The cold, gunmetal color of the craft versus the classy red sportscar of the Rotunda only further enforces the Cold War era thoughts, with images of the patriotic free world trying to evade the cold, military machine of communism.

For me, being military and growing up in the tail end of all that, it evokes some strong childhood nostalgia, which is always a big bonus!

Thanks again for sharing your work, it is always a great pleasure!

Colourbrand In reply to ArdanBlade [2013-12-15 21:44:22 +0000 UTC]

Exactly! Its such a cool Idea BT thought of - and ignored AS USUAL! Must admit when I am driving, I wish it is Bond's DB9 (minus the cloaking device!) - come now, is that not a beautiful car or what?

I understand your love for the mechs - I do; sadly that is ALL I EVER SEE!!! A rich world like BT and they focus on one - ONE - element! This is why I do the other things - EVERYONE focuses on the mechs! My belief is this - if you love the mechs, cool, no beans about that; but there are better artists like who do some pig crap ugly designs justice. I do the unsung - and I am alright I guess

As for the Karnov - F*** knows where they got the name; the design I based off a drawing - all blocky and stuff, but if she wew aerodynamic, it be that. I was trying to aim for a Special Forces/SWAT look - this one has been stolen by a nutter - and I think I pulled it off....ish.

Cheers sir - and glad to make you revive the nostalgia trip
