"Then... there came Armageddon... despite the desperate final efforts of Gaia's inhabitants, there was nothing they could do to stop it. It was too late... time was up. The cumulative effects of mankind's choices have finally led up to the calamity they were about to bring upon themselves.
The end did not come about as many had expected, but rather in a way that was so sudden, intense, yet enigmatically... equally tranquil and serene. There was blinding brightness, yet pitch black void, simultaneously. The source and cause of the anomaly were completely unknown, and would remain that way. Not a single soul survived the incident.
Eons later, the scene emerges again, within view of the star system's remaining planet and sun. Jumping into the star system, unseen, is an incredibly advanced vessel belonging to a highly inquisitive team of explorers, originating from a star system many lightyears away. Looking out from one of the ship's vantages, the explorers are fascinated by what they see.
As powerful as the anomaly had been, innumerable fragments lay strewn across the nearby sphere of space, hints of a now lost civilization. Among such artifacts was a most peculiar sight. Spanning across a minuscule speck of earth that was once a part of something much larger, is... simply... a bench, complete with a bit of lawn beneath its' legs.
And adding to the curiosity, were two russet bottles nestled beside each other nearby the bench. It appeared that this little memory of mankind had remained completely untouched, left exactly as it had been when it had still been attached to the surface of Gaia. 'How interesting!' The celestial explorers muse, 'What strange purposes did these devices serve to their makers?' "

All in good time, my friend!
Thank ye, great sir! I am truly honored that my humble story would be eligible for the max rating! I feel very glad that you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Yes, and that's one reason why art is so amazing, because it is subjective, it allows completely open and free expression of each unique individual, and an expression of an expression as well!
"Glorious " I agree!
When I saw in your description that the piece was open for interpretation, I decided to give it a go, so it's just a little something offer, considering the incredible works you have contributed to the DeviantArt community!
Heh heh! I'm happy you caught on to what I was trying to present, advanced beings discovering bits and pieces of mankind's modern lifes turned to relics, yet inexplicably preserved, as if time had stood still at the moment of the anomaly... (Oh man! I just realised yet another story could be made off this story of a story! )
Yeah, I smiled too when I wrote about the bottles! Thank ye again!
And thank you too for the wonderful comment on a comment, great sir! And know that each visit to your page makes my day as well!
Cheers, my friend!

It seems that as I sit here, I behold eternity.
Upon this perch where all things end,
I stare into forever, an uncertain future,
I gaze into the past, a tableau of all that was.
Yet in this moment, here is where peace lies.

Oooooo-- as if your post-apocalyptic works couldn't get more stunning or intriguing already-- this one is just mesmerizing. I can just see it, too, this odd
human remnant floating about in a place it should never have gone, and you are left wondering how it ever came to get there in the first place
Interpretation? I would be happy to oblige
How do I imagine this happening... to me, this looks like the very moment of the Earth's destruction. It looks as though Earth, around our time, discovered
a rogue planetoid, something about the size of Neptune, approaching at ridiculous speed on a collision course. Science would already be underway in an
attempt to remedy the issue or at least save a few of us when the news would be revealed, during which nobody would truly believe or understand. Eventually,
we would be able to see the planet in the sky, even during broad daylight, hitting the news home and triggering mass hysteria. People would immediately
switch to survival mode, even resorting to killing each other to get ahead, apocalypse-style, until everything would come to a volatile climax. Billions would
be decimated as the planetoid's gravity would suck up our atmosphere well before we'd war with each other, leaving nothing left by the time Earth entered
the planet's ring system. As the rings would pass by, Earth would be hammered by asteroids and chunks of rock of all sizes until the big one , some
monstrous whopper with the mass of the moon (at the very least), would slam upon it with enough force to blow its insides out in every direction...
...bringing us here, to the explosion itself, with debris and blocks of matter flying everywhere, the attacker and its rings right next to it, and one humble,
near-insignificant speck of dust, likely the size of a small car, drifting off in the vacuum silence of space with but one remnant of a very commonplace and
equally humble human convenience: a wooden park bench, ignored amidst the chaos back on Earth and left to rot away with moss with only a few glass
bottles rooted beside it to share the rest of its life with. And this would be a small fragment of humanity's legacy, left up to other wandering races in
search of knowledge to scratch their heads over until the end of its time.
There were a few other contenders for interpretation that came along before I picked this one; indeed, there is a lot I can imagine going on here. This is
a gorgeous piece with fascinating stories to tell.
I must say I adore the light you have cast upon the side of the bench facing away from us; it's almost as though we are watching the bench be stripped of
its meaning and significance, leaving only this dark shadow creeping over it from the rear to consume it entirely, by then it will be nothing but another
piece of litter in the universe. The bright red surface of the ringed body to the right looks awesome, too-- I'd say it's the best one you've done so far!
Heh-- I had a lot to say about this one- and I love this reality-inspiration theme so far! Truly was impressed-- keep it up my friend!

this is actually beautiful, love the concept to this as well as the description to what inspired it. Anything can inspire the creative minds, sometimes when we look for inspiration it's never there, but when the mind is relax and calm it's never ending

your welcome mate, good to see what others are always up to these days. So it's always a fun and interesting break to browse at other peoples work here
i think, i'm dead certain stone cold steve austin was given a similar quote from big van vader, 'a cooler head always prevails'
it certainly does help to tackle, or in this case for artist to find that calm zone and allow the hand to draw itself what it wants rather than what the mind wants to draw.

Strangely I thought the same as HandofManos - I instantly had the Hitch Hikers Guide theme tune run through my head. Maybe it needs a sign hanging from the back saying 'Used to be Mostly Harmless' Maybe the story line here is as such...The guy on the bench drinking the beer was a depressed scientific genius. He had just invented a device that he believed would release the energy at the centre of the earth's core to create an infinite source of power in a controlled way. But when he hit the 'On' button, nothing worked. His dreams of fame and money disappeared in an instant. So he went for a long walk...fell onto a bench in despair and drowned his sorrows in two bottles of beer. Drunk, he returned to his pokey workshop and slammed his half-finished third bottle down onto the control switch. It dislodged the previously-unnoticed jammed switch and the device began to work. However because he had smashed the safety parameters in a fit of rage earlier on that day, there was nothing to stop the device overloading the core and blowing up the planet. By a strange coincidence the only thing to survive was the bench, and the bottles of beer, purely because they were in the right place at the right turn of the earth...
