Description I've been itching to draw some FTL fanart for some time now after just discovering the game a while ago, but couldn't really settle on an idea. Then while playing the game, I thought it would be cool to draw the Kestral in an ion storm, one of the worse situations to find yourself in while traveling the nebula xD But hey it makes for great art!

tbh I had a hard time starting this out though, I used a reference image for guidance but my idea required the ship to be faced at a slightly different angle. honestly I was about to give up, I never drew a spaceship before and my attempts were awful. Doesn't help that sketching in paintstorm is a pain for some reason. buuuut I really loved my idea, and pressed on to see if I could get a decent sketch out of it. I tried different ways of using shapes to help guide the general idea, and finally got something that could work. This is definitely something out of my usual comfort zone, but I'm really glad I didn't give up on it because the final piece looks better than I thought it would and I got some good practice out of it!

annnd surprise!! I made a speedpaint to go with this as well! I always get the feeling to want to do a speedpaint when I start a painting, but always brush it off thinking it's not worth it (pun not intended)....then regret it after the fact xD Sorry in advance for the squished window, as I said I needed to reference another image of the ship and don't have the luxury of owning two monitors. Hope you guys enjoy it none the less! Do let me know if you guys like them, I might make more in the future or maybe even have them as a option for a patreon if I decide to get one c:

-Inahles- Not gonna lie, just looking at this takes me back to such glorious memories in starbound while I was still new to the game itself and even modded version, and... me being a goof, I decided to explore a "gas-giant" planet for the first time to do some mining.... one of them looked alot like this and I was flying around in a small craft in the mists of a storm... then my ship randomly just vanished aaaaand, welp...I was just sitting there staring at the screen questioning "what on earth just happened" after I'd re-spawned from plummeting to the center of the planet at lighting speed when my ship vanished. Tragic but funny memories in game oWo OVER ALL, my silly story aside, wonderful job here!! :>

starbound is a pretty great game though tbh! I've played well into it a while ago and had a blast with it. Is going to gas giants a mod then? cause I don't think I was able to do that even if I wanted to! Unless its a new thing, or a mod of course that sounds really cool but also funny aha xD One time I had this guy follow me to a lava planet and he got stuck in a lava pit and took like, several million points in damage. Probably a bug but fascinating and strange to see none the less!Β
And glad you like it as well! I really love this piece because I love sci-fi and FTL is one of my fav games, and I haven't really drawn a spaceship before so I'm really glad with how it turned out ;v;

Yeh, if you go to steam workshop and look under the starbound mods section there's TONS of mod's that where made available to the game including new weapons, races, vehicles, features, even story extensions and challenges! I actually created a collection list of mods that I currently use- its... "a lot" of mods but they're totally worth it! The "only" draw back to modding your game however is that once you install mods you will only be able to play with people who have the same mods as you do, attempting to play the game with a person who doesn't have those mods "will" crash your game and theirs. Fortunately you can always exchange mods with your friends before playing, plus a friend of mine actually has a method that allows them to easily switch between the modded and unmodded versions of the game! If your interested I can set ya up with the mod collection I have to see for yourself, or just check out the list of available mods on steam, additionally if you would like that option of being able to switch between unmodded and modded versions of the game I'll be sure to ask my friend about it for you as well too :>

Me fan boying about starbound aside, over all yes, I too am pretty big into sci-fi myself, sci-fi with a very small hint of fantasy here and there also, I actually used to be very into both drawing and story writing when it came to themes surrounding Sci-fi, and well, still do- kinda, but rather rare these days But yes, great work, wonderful job all around and hey, keep up the great work as I look forward to seeing more of it whenever u can in the future! God bless :>

That's pretty cool! :D I know there are mods, I've played around with some in a different game but I haven't really delved into the starbound ones. I don't really play multiplayer so I wouldn't have issues like that. I'd love to see your collection though, there's so many its hard to go through them all on steam xD It'd be cool to see what you found interesting c:

Alright sure! being its a pretty big list it'd probably be best to send that to ya via-DA notes, or through steam directly; however for the steam method that probably would require a friend exchange in which, well I wouldn't wanna ask that of ya so soon only after having just met ya oWo, however if you'd want that for means of direct communication to reach me I wouldn't mind giving ya that, but again its all up to you there.

One thing I will note though is should you be interested in actually trying the mods, I highly suggest backing up your game files through "raw" methods first just in case; especially for the mod called Franken universe (weird name, I know /w\ ), that's probably the biggest mod on my list being that's literally a full extension to starbound allowing access to entirely new planets, star systems, even new quests, weapons, and so on!

If you have any further questions just lemme know

I don't mind either but you can try sending through notes! c: and yeah backing up the game would be a good move, though I've never done that before so I'd have to look into it. But I don't think it'd be too much of a problem. ahh I think I've heard of the Franken universe one, though I never actually checked it out xD hmm now that I finished the campaign though it would be fun to check it out! Also that makes me wonder, you said there was a way to switch between the mod versions and vanilla? I might still be interested in playing my old save and maybe checking out mods in another if that's something I can do, I would be interestedΒ

Haha, alright I'll send ya that info ASAP! More over, its likely your old saves could be carried over as well, thus should you continue your old saves in the modded version of the game you'll automatically pick up right where ya left off but also receive all the addons as well, such as, access to the new crafting tables, and even access to the other planets! I'll explain more in the note, hope ya enjoy! :>
