Although production of the Pzk IV was halted in 1942 in favor of the PzK V and VI, the loki soldiered on into 1944, as replacements for losses in Afrika and the Eastern front were never fully replaced. Although in fewer numbers than previously by this point in the war, they often found their ways into units being rebuilt in France, units stationed in Italy or being handed down to other axis power's armies such as Hungary or Romania. With the eventual D-Day landings in Normandy, some former German machines were captured by FFI forces and used against their previous masters. Lokis were never fully withdrawn from service, with some being encountered from the banks of the Rhine to the final days of Berlin.
