Elec cars have a place, but not for American society as we know it today. We expect far more from a vehicle then elec can deliver. Batts are far worse than mfgs tout. They take too long to recharge. The are mot most costly component. Batts use elec inefficiently. etc. Then there is this big prob: Libs want us to use more elec while at the same time trying to drive up its cost in order for wind/solar to look good. There is our liberal future.

Anything is possible with the healthcare mandate. If the government can force us to buy healthcare, what can't it force us to buy?

Exactly. Libs seem to be willfully ignorant in this regard. What if a GOP prez says everyone must own at least 1 side arm and 1 rifle?

I wouldn't trust a car owned by a government employee. Either it's been used as a "special place," or it'll be bugged beyond belief to track where I go, who rides with me and how long I go there. .

I think it's the government's way of population control. They know we have bad drivers out there (especially the dumb teenagers who text while driving), and the recycled parts they use to make the cars are so weak, they'll literally be flattened in an accident. It's almost 100%-death guarantee.
Oh wait, I'm mixing it up with the smart cars, though I might not be far off.

I just wasn't sure which was more appropriate: stupid drivers, or stupid drivers who text and drive, and I associated that with teenagers, being the young people they are. They are the rising generation, after all, and their stupidity passes onto their own kids--unless they win the Darwin Award.

You are correct sir.. GM is the parent company of Chevy among many other brands. If I'm not mistaken, Ford is the only American car company that doesn't have the government's hand involved in it.

deragorka In reply to BluePhoenixx [2011-10-31 10:21:50 +0000 UTC]
That's because Ford is fiscally responsible. Though, I'm not sure if Chrysler has the government's aid. Does it?

BluePhoenixx In reply to deragorka [2011-10-31 17:00:48 +0000 UTC]
I thought it does, maybe not to the extent of GM but, I could be mistaken. You might also notice that Ford doesn't have to bow to unions either which makes their costs considerably lower than GM and Chrysler. I've never been a Ford guy but after this whole ordeal, I've reconsidered my opinions about the company. I'd take a Ford over GM or Chrysler any day now.

I generally buy used, anyway, cos I can't afford the price of a new car. But yanno, I think I'd still stick with my Dodge/Chrysler cars over any other. To me, they're just solid cars. The Chrysler vans, on the other hand...if I ever needed a van, I'd probably buy Toyota or Ford. My mom's had so many issues with her Chrysler minivan that it's ridiculous.

BluePhoenixx In reply to deragorka [2011-10-31 21:39:38 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I used to bleed Chevy.. but I've run out of support after the government takeover. Other than a Mustang though, i don't think there are any cars or vans I would buy from an American manufacturer. My Grandma has had nothing but troubles with her Chrysler, and Ford vans. The only van she has loved has been her Toyota. But that's an entirely new conversation.

deragorka In reply to BluePhoenixx [2011-10-31 21:42:07 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. In recent years, the Chrysler vans have left something to be desired. My parents had a Plymouth Voyager for many many years, but after close to 200K miles, it started breaking down. And understandably so. Since then, they've gone through a couple Grand Caravans and have had nothing but trouble with them. On the flip side, my Dodge Neon, Plymouth Sundance and now my Dodge Intrepid have been very solid vehicles. If I buy Chrysler, I buy their small cars. I won't buy their minivans. If I need a pickup, I buy a Dodge Ram, but I don't see me needing a pickup this lifetime. XD
