I'm not famillar with photography..I just have my cell phone out here to take my pictures of afghanistan.. I am looking into getting a good camera though..do you have any sugestions?

Buy a reflex! I'm using Canon EOS 450D and i find it really great for the price i've paid. I'm feeling that i need to change camera now, but a year has passed and i've shooted so many photos with this one, and i'll never sell it even if i buy a better one.
Anyways you've to choose between Canon and Nikon as brands if you want to shot digital.
I suggest Canon since i'm a Canon user, But Nikon is awesome too.
Check the base models, even if they're for amatorial photography a Reflex is ALWAYS better than a compact camera, remember! You'll experience some difficults at the beginning, but it's worth the result...being 100% able to decide how to shot your photos is priceless, manual is something the world will always need even with awesome technology, i think.
Anyways depends on how many moneys you have, if you've less than 1000 dollars then i suggest you a 450D-500D-550D Canon (or the corrispective Nikon camera)
If you're willing to spend more, then i can suggest you, even if I highly suggest to buy an amatorial one to get used to, then buy a semi-professional/professional when you feel you're ready, but that's my opinion anyways.
I've seen your photos, great photos for not using a reflex, but i reccomend, if you buy a reflex keep it away from dust, it will kill your sensor in some months..

Nice, a suggestion for next time is to put the focus on the person, the blurred lines are making it a bit odd. But still, great colouring!
