Meet one of Climax Stables' thoroughbred broodmares, Heart Beat.

She was trained as a racehorse, but Climax Stables purchased her and retired her to be a broodmare because she was unhappy in the artificial racetrack environment. She is much happier galloping free on Climax Stables' pastures with the rest of the broodmare band, and she is a great mother to all her foals. Her foals are successful racehorses, the most prominent among them being Triple Arrow Stables' stud Heartbloom.

This picture was one of those forgotten WIPs on my computer...I painted most of this picture in December 2009, everything except for Heart Beat's mane, tail, and the background. I did those elements this morning so now I'm finally finished. Unfortunately the time gap means I’m not so sure about my references. I didn't use any ref for the anatomy, I know that. I think I used several images, 4-5 of people's stock for the shading, and one photo as a reference for her coat colours, but I have no idea where they were.
