My filly Kate is bigger now! She's in being trained as an eventer by Kathleen, one of the owners of Climax Stables, but Kate has a mind of her own about how their training will go... So here's part one of a story about the two of them. It was fun writing Kate's point of view.

Kathleen:
“Mommy, why don’t you go in shows any more?” Alexandra was sitting across from Kathleen at the desk in the barn office, drawing horses with a crayon on the backs of old feed receipts. Kathleen looked up from her computer, startled at her daughter’s question, and saw Alexandra was looking at the all behind Kathleen. Kathleen didn’t need to turn around to know what had prompted her daughter’s question. The wall was hung all over with pictures of her showing Tyler. Her husband had hung them up, and it would have been obvious to take them down, so Kathleen had to walk past them every day and pretend not to notice them. Kathleen reached out to twirl one of Alexandra’s blonde curls around her finger and realized the crayon scratchings on the receipt were a big black horse with ostentatious white markings. Tyler.
“It’s a sad story,” said Kathleen. “Are you okay with that?”
“Maybe...” Alexandra fanned her stubby fingers through a mode of dust the sun cast from the one small window in the office. “I’ll tell you if I think I’ll cry, okay?”
Kathleen smiled, hoping she wouldn’t have to do the same.

Kate:
I’m in my stall, and it. Is. So. BORING. Just bedding, four walls, the waterer, and my feed bin and hay net, both of which are, of course, empty. I haven’t been able to stretch my legs since Kathleen took me out to play this morning, and even then, we had stay in the indoor arena because apparently it was too rainy out. Humans can be so sensitive. Anyway, I’ve been here long enough to realize no one’s going to come along, so it’s time I went to them. That’s right, I am breaking out. I don’t have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, but don’t worry. I have a contact who does.
