aaaaand another Temperate forest challenge submission : p

Chirrets are a type of softspud/Tuberphyta/polyspeculate plants that are known to inhabit southern ranges of Terra Septentrionis, what distinguishes Chirrets from other types of softspud (mossgrasses being a type of softpud and being incredibly common), is that chirrets have a very potent defence mechanism

In difference to most plants which have physical defenses, chirrets have developed a chemical one, potent compounds in the flesh of their fruits create an effect similar but opposite to earthan peppers, they make the organisms that eat the chirrets feel like their faces and whole head is freezing!

Think of it kinda like mints or other types of cold feeling plants, but much much much stronger

This sensation is strong enough that it has become a deterrent for most terrestrial animals, and as such the chirret fruits dont get targeted as much

however, aerial organisms that are able to spread far and wide the seeds of the chirret are immune to the chirret's compounds, letting the chirret seeds spread far and wide across terra septentrionis and possibly even other continents

Theres exceptions to that rule however, as daemian octichins have also developed some defences to the chirret's compounds, even incorporating their blue pigment into their own bodies

Tesminian chirrets themselves are incredibly powerful, reports of people eating them have shown that the effect can last for hoooouuurs and even if you put hot blankets in your face the freezing effect is still there, as such they have been labelled "The Tesminian Reapers" due to their potency

however, chirrets are great when it comes to desserts, being a great replacement for mint, and great to put in cold desserts like icecream, chirret sauces and creams are specially good and popular for their iconic bright blue color and their minty flavor :3

oh and a final note, the word chirret is a combination of "chill" and "peret", peret being a russian word for peppers, they are also called Chippers (chill+pepper) and are also called simply frost-peppers owo
