Description ~watercolor and watercolor pencils

Did this before (here) , found the reference again while I was browsing for some for the last fox... thought I could do better and am satisfied how it turned out (except for the butt I fucked up the color there ), most of all anatomy is now better and I cared for the background... still very simple, I have study landscape but...uuuh :/)

There is something special about watercolors.

Nice watercolor painting. But if I may give my constructive critique. Β I think it needs more depth and detail, specially the head of the fox looks to flat. Maybe you could achieve that with adding some lines/darker shadows. overall, you did good!Β

Wow! this is sooo nice!
There are only a few things I would like to note: Maybe wash a greenish base that's fairly light over the back before doing anything so that when you color in everything else, the white spaces are not so obvious. This is strictly a suggestion. The white outline of the fox has its own effect, and it is worth keeping, if your intuition so asks.
the front legs bend in just slightly before going behind the rock and draw attention away from the fox. It's a small issue, but it can really throw the beautiful balance of the image off.
Other than that, there are just a few places where the colors bleed into each other.
It's a very nice watercolor, indicating majesty and emotion gorgeously. It's wonderful. Seriously good job.

Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated
Now that you notice it the white outline looks indeed a bit strong and I like it on the legs but on the neck I could have blended it more after taking off the masking fluid like I did it with the bottom site of the tail. A green wash, though light would have affected the color of the fur I think thats why I worked with masking fluid.

Oh my gosh this is so cute - amazing watercolor, what a great medium to capture this creature, I simply love it!

I love the composition and the proportions are spot on! Seriously, the anatomy of the fox is so perfect, it makes it looks so real, yet it has this very distinct artistic touch. The colors draw the eye in and the details keep you interested in looking at the painting - and the background is absolutely gorgeous! To be completely honest, there's not too much for me to critique - I would maybe suggest adding some shadows/variation to the white portions since most things aren't 100% white. You could also darken up some spots a bit for some contrast (like I said, the white portions, and the lighter part of the face - this will add a bit more dimension since the body and ground has some dark spots, it would balance it out nicely too!) But that's all I've got - it's such a nice piece, and looking back at your "draw it again" post, you have come a long way!!Β

Ah, yes, Vulpes Vulpes, the European Red Fox. Beautifully rendered in watercolor (I'm starting to become a fan of the medium to be honest). The stance is natural, elegant, poised, everything a fox should be. The shades of colors that you used bring out the texture of not only theΒ  fur but also the rocks in the foreground. Noble of you to include a link to your reference, I know of many less honorable Deviants that simply refuse to cite their sources. Accreditation where it's due is always deserved, and admirable that you've done so. Now, something that would add a lot to this piece would be a more defined background. As you said, you need to study landscape, a worthy endeavor, for a scenic background can only enhance the appeal of a scenic foreground. You'll find that while many artists are skilled in illustrating the subjects of a composition, the ability to create a decent background is grasped by much fewer. Although it's not as major, it is in my honest opinion that while you accurately portrayed most of the fox's anatomy, the face and snout appears small in comparison to the size of it's head. It's slightly awkward, but nothing too major. I look forward to see a future piece of yours, especially if you continue illustrating natural subjects!

Very fine job Β

Thanks for the detailled feedback Oh I'm guilty of not always citing my sources especially if they are so many for one figure...but it's important, you're right and it helps for critique.
