Description
Just a few weeks ago, my (incredibly awesome) boyfriend actually found Mario tennis for the N64. :> Ever since then, we've pretty much been obsessing over beating the doubles tournament. While he normally plays Daisy, I pick up Waluigi.

What is the point of that little story, you may ask. Well if it weren't for that I would never notice how.....off both characters are now compared to their current selves.
While most people know about Daisy, since she's made a VERY dramatic change, Waluigi gets overlooked. He's changed too, you know!
Back in that game he was much more creepy than he is now. With the glowing eyes, evil laugh. The whole shebang.
As opposed to his current goofy self. :V

I find it funny that while Waluigi lost a few edges, Daisy gained some. It's almost like...they influenced each other! :'D

No, don't worry, you don't have to comment. I'll do it myself.

Anywho..I just wanted to illustrate old school Daisy/Waluigi.

Super Mario/Nintendo
Adobe illustrator (I'm on a buddy's laptop right now. Let me tell you, illustrator is pretty freaking hard to pick up. :V)

Heh yeah, I always mention that old Wall was more creepy back in those days. A lot of people seem to agree, some don't notice it though. Wonder why they changed it? They brought back his glowing eyes in Open Tennis but it was white, not glowing purple. I would of loved to see a mixture of that creepiness and sinister nature with a goofy element to it. I guess they wanted to make him more like Wario I guess, or I dunno. Speaking of Daisy, I like her older appearances. The tan skin just fits her more and she seemed nice but you can tell she was still portrayed as more hot headed than Peach still.

Yes,I  ship Waluigi x Daisy. Maybe Nintendo hasn't forgotten about MT3, MP4, and MP5 considering he's her rival in Mario Kart 8. I always thought it's because she rejects him.. lol

I suppose the main reason for changing is to make him more approachable. Mario is, first and foremost, a children's series after all. A lovable goofy screw up is a bit more child friendly than what was basically Satan. But honestly, I missed his goofy sinister undertones. It made him so unique to everyone in the Mario universe. It was like, yeah, he's funny and yeah he'll mess up more times than succeed, but don't underestimate him. As for Daisy, I suppose we differ there. I like her with short hair, and I loved her personality in Strikers Charged. If we could have her hair length and her Strikers personality with her old color palette then I would be a happy camper! (Also, on a personal note, Daisy used to be the only Mario character I could cosplay without getting guff. )

Oh wow, that brings me back. WaluigixDaisy is such an underrated pairing! And even though I don't focus on it as much as I used to, it'll always have a special place in my heart. Haha, but I thought the popular theory was that Waluigi and Luigi were rivals because they both liked Daisy. Not that I'm knocking your theory. Actually Daisy and Walugi being direct rivals perfectly fits my preferred ship type.

~My boyfriend did bring up an interesting argument, that his character never really changed, rather the focus of it. You still see that side pop up sometimes but it's mostly the goofy wacky lovable dork we have today. If Nintendo would expand on that side of his shown in the earlier games in the RPGs or sideline games then that would be pretty cool. I could see him using black magic or having some mysterious power.

True, true. It was pretty cool. It distinguished him from Wario more, although it also made their partnership more confusing and random.

I respect your opinion. I wouldn't mind that either!
Cool, I never been able to cosplay as any character.

Japan actually likes it more than the West does, who tends to pair Rosalina and Waluigi together. in the official JP manual it also states Waluigi has a unrequited love for Daisy, they also had a burning rivalry with each other in Itadaki Street DS, and in the newest Mario Golf installment for the 3DS Waluigi and Daisy were in a corner together away from the others. I'm pretty sure hints are here and there. a mix of burning lust and hatred perhaps on Waluigi's side? Maybe obsession? Maybe Daisy could slightly reciprocate those feelings too or see them?

Hehe

Wow, that's a rare opinion! I normally hear about the other way around - where people dislike Daisy's current look and prefer her old. Anyway, I didn't think a silly picture of mine could change someone's mind... :'D
Thanks a ton, for the fav and kind comment!

Great picture, awesome style! It's like paper cut-outs or something.
As much as I like old-school Daisy, I still think the one true Waluigi pairing is Waluigi x Waluigi.

Thanks. However the style was a complete accident, born from my inability to work with the pen tool in illustrator.
Wow lots of people really like old-school Daisy, I mean I like her too but personally I think she was better in Mario Party 3 - she seemed too much like a creepy Peach clone in Mario Tennis if you ask me.

Haha...Waluigi x Waluigi, you just may be right.
...I just may have to draw that.

I see! Well, most great styles are accidents... or something. I think.

Hey, I think she's better than the NEW "pale, ugly" Daisy. Seriously, she looks like she's been struck by a frying pan square in the face one too many times now. Seriously, Luigi should consider a different girlfriend. Wanda the Fairy, maybe?

It's what Martinet said! "Waluigi's defining aspect is his self-pity, how everyone hates him and cheats." He really only likes himself.

Well I suppose you're probably right, what with how sure you're coming off as.

I feel like such a weirdo, since I really don't mind either version! >.> Wanda the Fairy? What about Vivian the, err, Shadow Siren?

Haha, great, now general curiosity demands me to search just to find that particular interview.
Anyway, while Waluigi's self pitying nature makes complete sense, I based it all off the Mario Party 4 official guide where it was stated that he had "soft spot" for Daisy then there's their team name in Mario Party 5 : "Awkward Date". Why go on a date in the first place if both parties are not at least a little interested?
It may be faulty logic, but at least it's my faulty logic.

Come on, the new Daisy is not that cool. Old Daisy = slapping Bowser into the sky. New Daisy = "HI I'M DAISY!"

Waluigi x Vivian? Hnnn... They're both purple, but you got to consider Vivian will get to be thousands of years old and really, it's rather tragic that if she has a relationship with a human, he'll die very quickly for her perception of time. That's why I think only old, ancient demons should intermingle. Like Mimi x Doopliss or something.

Well, "soft spot"... I have a soft spot for toffees too, doesn't mean I would date them, or that it would be anything other than awkward. Anyway, yeah, I guess you have your reasons and at least their color schemes look cool together.

I really miss old Daisy. *sigh*

This picture is nice though!
I do agree as well that more Wii games need to have GCN Controller option.

Cool. I love Mario Tennis. I have the N64 version. I don't have the GCN version yet though.

Yay! Me too, on both counts.
Heh, I think they released one for the Wii by now buuuut having to constantly wave my arms around sounds so annoying. If I wanted to do that, I'd just play real tennis...which I do but still! D:

MarioLuigi25 In reply to Cosmic-Ribbons [2010-06-02 03:25:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they did release one for the Wii, but I'd rather just get the GCN version because the controls on the Wii version seem pretty frustrating.

I take it you're sick of waving your arms around too? :>
It's not like the whole motion control idea is bad...it's just that I wish more games were game cube controller optional. >_____>
