ah a very nice complement to the video tutorials,  Sometimes it is hard to catch the brush settings on videos (and to be honest I appreciate a tutorial video to not spend half the time talking about brushes)

A very nice tutorial and also very close to the way I paint nebulas. I like your results better than mine, for my next painting I may consider tweaking my workflow a bit and incorporating some of your ideas. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, I had a question. I was trying to practice today and when I made a new layer and set it to color dodge (including the brush), no color showed Not sure what I'm doing wrong... Also, I dunno why but "pen  pressure" doesn't work on my Photoshop (I really think it has something to do with my tablet, it's old and generic). Is that option necessary to do nebulae?

cosmicspark In reply to ChimeraArtz [2015-01-16 02:40:30 +0000 UTC]

Use "Linear Dodge" or "screen", not "color dodge".
You can do it without pen pressure but its going to take longer to achieve the same effect.  Does the brush tool allow you to set it to accept "pen pressure" on the opacity control?  If it allows it but the pen just doesn't work right, then yes its your tablet hardware, you should get a new one, its worth it.  I have a Wacom Intuous that is 8 years old at least, and it works just great.
If it wont allow you to set the control then you may need drivers for the tablet (this is a software issue).  By tablet I mean a drawing tablet, not a like an ipad (which I doubt has pressure sensitivity).

Ah ok. Yea they don't even make the tablet I'm using anymore and when I first got it the driver was out of date and the only driver I could find was already a few yrs old, this was 2012. I was thinking about this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008… I'm on a budget but do you think this is a good one?

cosmicspark In reply to ChimeraArtz [2015-01-20 21:10:43 +0000 UTC]

It looks quite small, maybe something a little bigger would be a better investment.  The reviews for it are great though.

ChimeraArtz In reply to cosmicspark [2015-01-20 22:14:49 +0000 UTC]

Lol can you believe it's bigger than the one I current use? I've created some pretty decent art so the size isn't a huge deal for me. I'm out of work because of my son's mental disability so I'm on a tight budget sadly btw, when is your next video

Thanks a million   I've got some questions though!   I'm using PS 10 Elements. CS 5   And I can't find all that brush preset settings.  There is no brush settings to be found in my Windows.  Here is screen shots of all my brush settings : Brush not at windows
Brush Settings 1  ,Brush
Do you have any suggestions?  I just got my Wacom and was so disappointed not to be able to set those settings!    Pressing F5 shows nothing.  I've also have PS 12 Elements but its the same as PS 10.

I looked into it, I'm not sure, everyone seems to just talk about that window as if it had pen pressure options.

Try clicking "learn more about additional brush options"  Hopefully that will solve the problem.  I'm pretty sure its in there somewhere.  Good luck!
