lol... I think it's just how loud they are, they don't have any fangs or anything at least ^^' Plus they are more active at night, so if you don't know their there and they start making a ruckus, until you learn it's a harmless moth you kinda get creeped out and have to find the source of the sound.

Though, this photo shows they can really be very pretty XP
