Description This is my latest painting featuring a grey Arabian stallion in a native Arabian halter. It's done in acrylics and colored pencil on an 8x10 canvas.

I love his shade of grey and the mane, and the halter matches well.

I agree, the eye speaks. I think he looks a little mischievous, like an Arab gelding I know.

The halter colors are the perfect contrast to the grey body, too.

And you say you use colored pencils; do you draw in the hairs after you finish the painting part? I'm curious as to how you get the wonderful realism in your pieces.

My process is as follows,

I sketch out the outline of the horse in pencil, then color it in with colored pencil, then paint about two layers or so of acrylics over top of that, then I add the tiny details over the acrylics with the colored pencils again and then come the last few touch ups with acrylic paint. I actually did this horse on paper and then once he was completly painted I just cut him out and glued him to the canvas (which I had already painted) and then added a spray on matte finish over top with a final brush on satin finish over that. I guess that sort of makes this piece like decoupage

I'm so glad you like this painting, your comments are much appreciated!

Thank you very much for sharing, that's an interesting process! I've never heard of someone doing it before, but then again, I haven't been exploring the art world for very long. Keep doing what you do; it's so effective!

Oh I don't mind sharing these things at all! I'll admit that I've never actually heard of anyone doing things the way I do them either , it just works for me and I find I enjoy the process. Thanks for the compliment!

It's very beautifully done! Realistic, yet a bit cartoonesque

It definitely deserves comments and faves.
