Description Bulawayo Yards on May 8, 1997 and National Railways of Zimbabwe Class 15A 4-6-4+4-6-4 Garratt No. 402 'Impofu' (Eland), and its crew, take a short break from shunting. A diesel waits at the head of a freight in the background. A 'workaday' sight once common on many railways.......

Don't know what the top end would be but there were 18 cars on the Union Limited including an articulated pair.

I've always liked scenes like these, especially how blackened the loco is. You could tell she was put to work! Garratts have always seemed the best match to a diesel, and it's interesting seeing both in this picture.

Thanks for faving her Rocky. That looks like emulsified oil on the rods and the centre driver, she was obviously a well used old girl!

I've noticed that most preserved locos are almost a little too polished up, sure, it's good to keep them looking their best, but it's not quite the same.

Yes, it's good practice to keep a loco sparkling clean but in the old days that was a rarity, locos just out of works and I only saw it once.....

Especially on some of the shunters;

I can barely make out the numbers on the extended tank at the back.

Yeah they were nice looking engines; sadly I never saw one.
