Glorious winter sunshine. Plymouth Sound on January 17, 2019. HMS Iron Duke completes a 140+ nautical mile tow from Portsmouth with a skeleton crew, arriving at Devonport Dockyard for a one-year refit. The Falmouth tug Vanquish brought her most of the way, but has now left the frigate in the hands of two Plymouth tugs and gone ahead into the Dockyard. Clearly the Vanquish crew were hungry for the pasties available on shore!

The Plymouth tugs bringing Iron Duke into harbour are the SD Faithful (in the lead) and the SD Careful (lashed to the stern and facing backwards). Obviously not taking any chances lest the frigate should start to swing off course.

Iron Duke is wearing no ensign here and looking a bit sorrowful but, after a year in the capable hands of the Devonport Dockyard 'mateys', will emerge once more as a proud and smart fighting ship, with an illustrious name.
