GWR Class 61XX 2-6-2T No. 6106 moves out from Didcot Loco and is being observed by a small group at the ash shelter on November 18, 1973. At this date the shed appeared not much changed since closure to steam in 1965. The ash shelter was a wartime addition at many depots to screen sparks and glowing ashes from enemy bombers. The Didcot ash shelter was taken down some time after my visit. I would have liked them to have kept it as part of the shed's history but perhaps it was unsafe.
