"The Madness Of Dreaming In Rose"

Work started for this in September 2009, I only just finished it.

At the time I was madly in love with a girl called Alycia. I wanted to do this to show how I felt about her, kind of as a romantic gesture. But as usual life had other plans, she ended up going out with some other guy.

In November 2009, I stopped doing anything with it, leaving it unfinished, probably forever. Anyway months later (March 2010) I finally managed to get my head in the right place to finish it and show her. Needless to say she was left speechless.

Now I can put that whole story behind me and move on.

This is a departure from my normal style and something I wanted to do to challenge myself.

All of my artwork to date, maybe with a few rare exceptions, has been two dimensional. It's my comfort zone, it's what I'm good at. But I wanted to put something together that is more than just a flat picture. I wanted to mix painting with building with text. This is the result.

I also have been very critical of abstract "art" for quite some time. People who just splash paint on a canvas and call it art truly disgust me. I wanted to do something that could use those techniques but still be a picture of something, a representation of something recognisable instead of an incoherant mess.
