The Wizard of Oz was on all day (literally) during thanksgiving.I'd always wondered about this...
I like Dorothy's braids in the second panel!

It makes more sense in the book, where the Witch of the North doesn't know much about the silver shoes, but Glinda, the With of the South (not the North) is able to tell her. It's just a goof in the film's writing that couldn't be avoided when they decided to combine the two witches into one character.
Also they wanted to shoehorn in the film's moral, namely "... that it wasn't enough to just want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em... and it's that if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own backyard; because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."

This was funny, you must read WIcked by Gregory Maguire, it was turned into a musical.It's amazing and answers questions like why Glinda never told Dorathy about the slippers and you end up loving the Wicked Witch and hating the munchkins. Cute comic, made me smile

Yeah, I always thought that too.
But it actually makes sense, if you consider this: when Dorothy said "there's no place like home"-- she meant it. Genuinely. In the beginning, I doubt she could have harbored that same kind of appreciation.
Therefore, she had to go on her whole journey before she would truly believe what she was saying + have the heel-click work.

So your saying that I came here in a falling house, met a dumbass scarecrow, and closet case of a tin woodsmen, and a lion that has the backbone the size of my pinky, killed not one but two witches, got manhandled by freakin' flying monkey and got hit on by some crusty dude, that called himself a wizard....and your telling me all I had to was...CLICK MY FREAKIN' HEELS TOGETHER....well all I have to say to you Glinda is...GO TO HELL, YOU...BLOND
