They're there in my manga. Laser Weapons tend to be rather unreliable from time to time, expensive, hard to maintain; etc., etc. you get the picture. Projectile Weapons are more favorable because of reliability, preference, easy to maintain, inexpensive, highly modifiable, all the good stuff that makes them dependant. Laser Weapons, specifically Human Laser Weapons, fit the description above. the same can't be said about Laser Weapons from other races, but their weaponry, tends to be encoded to where they can't be used by Non-Members of their race, and jury-rigging it, reverse-engineering it, or trying to hack past the encoding, usually results in a very painful, messy death.

still, porjectiles can still pack quite a punch. for example my Gauss Rifle [link] fires .90cal ferrous core slugs with a harder outer layer of tungsten carbide

well, gauss cannons (you know, the orbital and ship based ones) use huge metal slugs as ammo, can punch clean through a capital ship and its shields, so this is basically as smaller version of that, hence the .90cal slugs.

I've read about experiments about real-life gauss weapons, and they've concluded, or theorized at the most, that any size piece of metal, will do sufficent damage with coil weapons, like gauss guns and the like. I think it has to do with the muzzle velocity and the rate at which the metal is traveling at, that has the most implication when it comes to damage it does. of course, the metal must be able to withstand the incredible friction generated heat, created by the velocities, but you get what I'm getting at, right?

yes, i have studied the topic in detail. and true while a pee size projectile can do stupidly large amounts of damage, like you said, this has to withstand the increadibly large temperatures generated and survive the pulling force of super electromagnets. it is also good a dealing with very large objects, not just their armour.

thank you! thank you! i'm here all week...
i tend to research anything extensively before i start drawing, thats why there is sometimes a large gap between deviations.
