Fine tuners are only really necessary on the E string. Fine tuners on the other strings actually inhibits the vibration to a degree. My violin only has a fine tuner on the E string, and I can tell you that it makes a world of difference when you've played long enough.

I know its an old comment but one of my violins only has one fine tuner, another 4 and the 3rd non. I always thought it was something some used, some didn't?

Fine tuners have a weight to them, and with most of them taken off, it prevents some strain and, in my opinion, makes the sound a little more expressive. Β Sometimes people don't have ANY fine tuners at all.

... It looks like my violin o.0 wow. I remember when the E-string snapped in my face once when I was tuning mine... by the peg. Because I had left it out of it's case overnight and My Violin doesn't do well with Australian heat. Oops.
